i spend about three weeks each summer in lake placid, so, yes, i spend quite a bit of time at my "home" resort. there's just so much to do up there in the summer, even more than in winter. the weather's perfect (most houses don't have AC), the hiking, water skiing, mountain biking, golfing, and bbq'ing are great, so, yes, it's good to be up there. usually make it to WF once or twice to hit the MB trails, ride the gondola for the views, hike or drive to the summit (all depending on what type of family outing is planned).

True, true, true, also great canoeing, kayaking, fishing and road biking. It's also just a beautiful part of the country to be in.

Sorta. We took a ride over there for the rail jam Memorial Day weekend. But we've been up to VT every weekend since 3/20.

I don't but when Blue mountain becomes a 4 season resort..I will spend time on the bumper boats and in the water park..it's a tease to go to a ski area in the summer..

I never make it up to Mountain Creek. They don't do a beer festival :)cry:), I don't mountain bike, and I'm not interested in the water park. I won't be up again until my first day on snow in Dec.

Been homeless for the past few seasons. Next year Ragged will be my home mountain, but I don't have any designs on heading up there this summer.

I'm all about the water in the summer time. So, if I were to ever truly have a home mountain (own real estate) I would first off have to A. receive a massive unexpected cash winfall and B. find a mountain home near a lake. I'd rather be lakeside and driving to skiing than slope side and driving to the lake.

It's pretty unfortunate, but in New England, the skiing options within twenty minutes of a decent lake are pretty poor.

Saddleback and Sugarloaf have Rangely lake within 20
Sunday River has Howard Pond, Songo Pond, Christopher Lake...all within 20 min and another 3 or more lakes within 25-30...you can't throw a rock in Oxford County without hitting a lake.
Too bad the skiing sucks at all 3 mtns huh! ;-)

okay, edit after I saw your within 2.5 hrs post...so that leaves you with the River in ME and lots of places to get your feet wet within 20-30 min...Songo Pond is only 10, Howard Pond is only 10, but its past the Mtn on 26 towards Rumford...ie cheaper real estate.

I used to be there M-F all summer long...but the employment situation changed and now I'm 2.5 hrs away. Made it once last year...prob once this year too. No strong desire to head to the hill when we've got a place on a lake. We'll head to Bethel a couple times in the summer to visit friends but not to make a trip to the mtn. summer time + me = Long Lake Lounge Lizard

yea, the AT passes within about 50 yds of tut's lane at blue and i usually end up hiking that section a few times in the off season. it's like a car wreck - you don't want to look but i always check it out. it was depressing until this year with the mountain biking events - i rode it once and will hit it a least one more time

Don't have a home "resort". Got a home ski area though. I usually hike around Sundown once each summer. Maybe I'll check if it's okay to ride the MTB around.

As much as they do in the winter I'm surprised they don't have any summer activities. Concerts, Beer Fests, etc...

I take it you haven't been to Saddleback?

I have and later commented that I should have included within 2 hours of me. Saddleback is a great mountain and I'm sure Rangely Lake is awesome in the summer. However, due to it being over 3.5 hours from where I live, I would never consider it for a vacay home. Time is valuable. The max I'd want to have to travel for a regular weekend destination is 3 hours, ideally 2ish. The good thing is with my pay check, I won't be worrying about that anytime soon.

I make the 10 minute haul to Burke a lot during the summer. Lots of activities all summer long - MTB, Hiking, Volleyball, live bands at the restaurant, good times :) .

Oh and for DHS... Burke is within 20 minutes of both Lake Willoughby (states deepest lake and lots of hiking) and Crystal Lake; which are both beautiful clear lakes with nice beaches.

BTW - If anyone else on this board is into Volleyball check out the tournament we are putting on at the base lodge July 3rd. Send me a PM if you're interested.

4 person co-ed. Mix of Beach and Grass play. More info here http://vermontfourth.org/index.html

Winnipesaukee is no slouch of a lake and there are plenty of big ski areas right next door in the Whites.

Winni is the best summer play ground. I'm hoping to get back to Center Harbor this August for a week of water skiing, cruising and boat drinks at the Naswa. I'm from one of your little cousins Lake Hopatcong, NJ, not a terrible summer play ground in it's own right. It's like the mini Mount as opposed to the real Mount.

I do go at least once a summer to Camelbeach. It's entertaining. Usually ride the lift up to Cameltop as well.

This is a hypothetical dream vacation home my friend, so allow me to have fairly tough guidelines within my dream criteria . As it stands there is not a single mountain I'd be interested in within approximately 2 hours from where I live that has a great lake 15-20 minutes from the slopes.

What I want is Mount Mansfield on the shores of Lake Winni

I should have qualified within 2.5 hours of me. There are some decent lakes near Okemo and Killington. Waterbury Reservoir near Stowe used to be killer, but you couldn't have lake front property. Jay has perhaps the best combo with Lake Membperhmeangougaulogdog right near by

I'm 10min from the lake... but almost never go... So many other nice swimming holes option around...

I drive by Jay and see Jay a lot while mountain biking down in Montgomery or Jay Village... There was still a very small patch of snow last weekend on Exhibition... for those interested... nothing to ski on...

I drive by Burke to ride the Kingdom Trails and will bike up the toll road to get to the good trails... but never skied burke...

I drive through Stowe and Smuggs between trails in Jeffersonville and Stowe... I see a lot of Mont Mansfield while out the trails...

There is so much great riding around these mountains! So yeah, having some activities around the mountain is great! A beer fest at Jay would be a blast after a day of riding...
