Possible New New England Ski areas

The thread would more aptly be named impossible new New England ski areas, but what mountains that are currently undeveloped as ski areas have you looked and thought - damn, I wish there were some lifts and trails on that puppy.

I doubt we'll ever see a 'new' ski area in New England. The demand just simply isn't there but....

I've always looked at Mt Equinox and Mt Belvedere in Vermont as two mountains that could support great new ski areas.

Shouldn't you be out finding snow? Go now!!! Mt. Washington got 1.1 inches last night, think it is skiable? Maybe I'll throw the skis in just in case. :blink::lol:

Bigelow accross from Sugarloaf. Sits right on Flagstaff lake and had a ski trail on it before Sugarloaf. Won't ever happen because the AT goes right over the top, which is part of what has held Saddelback back all these years.

It'd be nice if Sugarloaf can expand onto Burnt Mt however.

The LAST thing we need is more clear cuts. Both those Mtns have great skiing just the way they are IMHO. Belvedier is way too small BTW, although it has some awesome terrain.

Of course....probably the top 200ft of the Auto Road at least...

Mt. Greylock - starting at Greylock Glen and wrapping all the way to the Hopper. It'd be a tragedy to see that developed, but it'd be a HUGE ski area!

I'd go with the actual Bolton Mountain in VT. It tops out at just under 3700' in the heart of the snow belt just north of I-89. 2500' vertical to the west and southwest, 2000-2200' vertical to the northwest in to the Ethan Allen Artillery Range, and 1700-2000' of vertical to the northeast into various branches of the Miller Brook drainage depending upon if you go from Mt. Mayo or Bolton Mtn. It would have been epic, and likely is today - watch for those shells though.

Nice. There was plenty today on Lafayette, though the sleet blasting at my face up on the ridge wasn't too pleasant. Also, the wind chill, which was most likely below zero, wasn't too nice especially since I forgot my jacket at home. Still a good time none the less. Someone go buy me a USB cord and I'll have plenty of picture to post.

I missed this thread of yours, so I guess mines a repeat, but I do agree with you on the Old Speck notion. I didn't know the name of it, but it came to mind a lot last winter skiing SR. I wonder how much more natural it gets than SR due to thousand foot higher elevation.


I have a new life goal. Build a ski area on Old Speck and serve Old Speckled Hen on tap at the bar in the base lodge. :lol:
