i can't believe it took more than a week for an anti-okemo comment to show up :smash:

I've only been there once, very early season, so I don't have much to base an opinion on. Interent experts are always bashin the crap out of it, but I'm thinkin there have to be some good points.

This thread is a chance for Okemo fans to say what's good about it. Let's here it.

  • Great bump runs.
  • Agressive early season snowmaking.
  • The South Face had more challenge and character (Outrage and Double Diamond) than I was expecting. Nothing crazy, but still fun.
  • The Narrows is a fun, intermediate trail.
  • Accessible - less than 30 minutes off 91.

Other than extreme steeps, which i don't care for anyway, i think they have a good variety. Very interested in seeing the new trails added this year. I'm probably in the minority on this board but a top to bottom cruiser is fun. i can find excitement on one trail and fun with my kids on another.

I get lift tickets there for Christmas every year!

3 hours door to door from my house makes for a perfect day trip. Park @ jackson gore and avoid the worst of the crowds.

Ludlow is a good town with many options for food and lodging.

Okemo is nice for families..way better than Killington due to it being mostly wide Blue trails. Okemo has great snowmaking and grooming. Okemo is a nice place for Thanksgiving/early season turns due to their large snowmaking system..it's a good place to get the legs warmed up early season..plus it's a friendly/civilised crowd of mainly wealthy people from Connecticut..

Okemo sucks up 650,000 gaperiffic skier per year from people who otherwise might have gone further north for more snow and better skiing. Thank you, Okemo. Thank you.

good conditions during tough snow times. they conveniently mark all the rolling jumps with "no jumping" signs. fast lifts. long challenging terrain parks (over my head)

Serious question, if snow conditions where the same would you rather live 17 miles from Okemo or Blue?

There is good stuff if you look for it. Found some untracked trees off of Upper Wild Thing and the area.
Jackson Gore trails are entertaining - last time there spent lots of time on Black Hole and Supernova - some nice natural features or just big bumps in there - fun stuff and would rarely see more than 2 people on these trails when on them.

I'd take Okemo over Blue..but I'd rather drive 7 hours to Stowe vs. 5.5 hours to Slow-Kemo..If I lived 17 miles from Okemo..I probably wouldn't be able to afford to ski..have you seen that area..it's pretty depressed..you're lucky if you can find a job working at the mini-mart..

I've only been there a few times, and only once recently. I had a blast. To me it seems like the best thing about the place is that it keeps the elitist powder snob types away.

Because the elitist powder snobs go farther north where it snows double as much ans where the terrain is steeper..imagine Okemo with 20 inches of fresh Poe..there's hardly enough pitch to enjoy it..

How many times have you skied at Okemo?

6 days..

2 days in 1995
2 days in 2004
1 day in 2005
1 day in 2007

I'll most likely hit Okemo on their $25 Canned Food day, the Sunday after Thanksgiving...Okemo is sort of like Whiteface because it's mostly Groomers and I've only skied Whiteface 4 days all in the 90s..

Food drive is Sunday, December 7th this year, $30.00. Parley that with Mt. Snow Saturday for the first double-shot of the year for a nice early season warm-up with lots of Vert. I'll miss doing this on Thanksgiving weekend for the first time it eight years however, a little sad.
There is enough stuff at Okemo to keep you going enough to have a good time.
High speed Lifts get you everywhere fast.
Love the Sitting Bull. Nice staff! Cranberry Chicken Salad Sandwich with Long Trail on tap rocks.......can't wait for December 7th!

There are some things about this comment that I find hard to believe.

#1 That you would let a can of food leave your possession.

#2 Why go back to Okemo once you’ve established you don’t like it there.

#3 Even Whiteface detractors will admit that taken as a whole the mountain skis relatively steep by Eastern standards and I’ve never heard that about Okemo.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I don’t believe you’ve ever been to Whiteface.

In 25 years of skiing, no mountain I have come across in the east does better at snowmaking and grooming. As good as Sunday River as at it, Okemo is still number 1 in the east in my book.
