Where: Ragged Mountain, NH
When: Saturday, March 1, 2014 9:00 - 1:00
Conditions: Frozen Granular, cold, sunny to cloudy, busy
Had a good but short day at Ragged. There was a race which made for a crowded lodge but the lift lines were a few minutes at most. Anything groomed was edgeable in the AM but hardpack/ice showed up after noon. What little ungroomed I ventured on was bulletproof. Hit a number of the groomers, ROTD for me was Birches which held up pretty well with the reduced traffic. Did one run down Showboat which was in nice shape.
Only did a few runs after lunch, the flat light was making it difficult to see the ice patches and as much as I'm a groomer skier just pointing them down a hardpack trail wasn't all that interesting after a while.
Nice to be able to finally get down Easy Winder. Had to stick to the groomer path on it. Was actually surprised to see that they groomed a section of Raggae Glades. Better to navigate through that then to try to deal with the rock solid bumps.
They are doing the best with what they have but the cold is only resulting in continued hardpack conditions. Would like to see some more snow to freshen the surfaces or warmer temps during the day to soften things up.
