Resort or Ski Area: Ragged Mountain
Conditions: 6-10 fresh heavy snow. Warming towards 40 and getting manky by early afternoon
Trip Report:
Killer day to close out my season at Ragged. 1st chair I shared with 4 ski patrollers. They were hootin and hollering about how great the Ravine was skiing. They had all skied Cannon yesterday and were blown away by how much more snow Ragged had received. They were claiming a foot, I'd put it around 6 down low to maybe 10 up top. So, I asked if everything was open. They said everything but Rags to Riches, but, "Hey fellas, should we take this guy down Rags with us to see if it's good enough to open?"
So, 1st run was 1st tracks with ski patrol down Rags to Riches. Sweet!!
Though the snow was heavy, it skied real nice. It was dense enough to cover any possible low cover areas, but not too dense that you couldn't get down into it. Far from blower, but still real nice for the top half of the mountain.
Throughout the day the snow eventually did get pretty manky and it wasn't really worth skiing anything that wasn't packed. Place tracked out real fast and was developing some really nice soft bumps in the woods and on ungroomed trails. Split around 1:30 having had my fill.
1st tracks down Rags
Patrol scoping out the rest of the glade
Sweepstakes skied awesome early in the day
Glades on Spear side
Showboat
More Spear Glades
Overall a really solid season for Ragged Mountain. Somewhat bummed that I only got in 9 days there this season considering how good it was. Pass more than paid for itself though.
It was good to see both upper lots full of cars and the place doing a good business for the final weekend. They could easily go another week or two, but so it goes.
I'll definitely miss being a pass holder there next season, but I'm sure I'll be back a few days as they always have some good promotions.
