Haystack, Stowe, the Bush all have some big improvements/developements on the way.

Which resort in the NE will have the biggest improvement ready for this upcoming year.

I just read Sunapee is is spending $500,000 on all new grooming equipment and better on mountain food. Kmart, Stratton, Jay and Smuggs are adding some condos and more gladed terrain.

Anything else?

burke has a HSQ going in this season which is prob one of the higher value improvements. is bolton's HSQ going in this season too? is kmart actually cutting new glades or just adding previous cut by locals glades to the map like they did last season?

most "improvements" the average skier never even utilizes or notices. lifts and base lodges are what gets noticed the most. i would usually prefer improving what is already there than builing new stuff (which is cannon's current plan thankfully).

Stowe has a HSQ going in this season to the top of big Spruce, though many of us who ski there frequently and know of the treasures to be found on Big Spruce wouldn't necessarily call it an improvement.

I'd compare it to your favorite local band making it big. Sure your happy for their success, but the intimate experience of seeing them with lots of elbow room in a small venue becomes a thing of the past.

I'd say Burke is making the biggest splash, though you have to wonder how many people will notice. Bottom to top lift going to be in place for the first time plus 20 acres of new gladed expert terrain. That's a pretty big deal.

I'm not sure Sugarbush is even on the list in terms of noteworthy improvements. As the SB thread indicates, they will not be completing the new skier services building and the the Clay Brook residences project will be in construction throughout the winter. Next year will be their great leap forward.

Hunter Mountain is opening the new Kaatskill Mountain Club which is a big deal for them...the first on slope hotel accomodations there. It's also a time share residence, and they're actually promoting fine dining and other on mountain activities.

They hired the chef from The Deer Mountain Inn which was one of the very best restaurants in the area. That guy can cook!

I was there opening night...
Shamus cooked an amazing meal - but the wait staff is still working out the kinks so it was slightly cold..
Found the food to be resonably priced.. Drinks were good price too..
They just need to finetune the waitstaff and gussy up the space a little with artwork etc...

Just looked over some pix...the "rooms" look huge...and so does the nightly rpice...but 220 for the 1 bedroom...I mean it's a condo, it aint a room...has a private bedroom with a king, and the living room has a queen pullout..say the place sleeps 6 though..firplace kitchen...looks very nice...

They don't mention it, but they're selling quarter shares...wonder what that goes for...

Well, the lower double is being replaced...Willoughby Quad maybe next year...where did you see the gladed terrain?

I'd agree that Bolton and Burke are the big winners this season.

Was up at K-Mart on Tuesday...no obvious construction, but the lodges and facilities looked good with the fresh coat of paint :D

For Jiminy Peak fans - the new lodge seems to be going up nicely.

Also, question from Greg in the challenge "What feedback have you received on the new Outback summit trail? The trail is rather flat, so much so that unless you're barreling down it off the summit you can't maintain any momentum to reach West Way. My understanding is the goal for the summit trails was to relieve some overcrowding on Left Bank and West Way, but I feel the grade of Outback is prohibitive in that many folks will opt not to take it after they try it once. The trail starts off with a nice pitch and even a nice turn, but then it dies. I've even seen some snowboarders have to unstrap and walk to West Way."

They had a back hoe and crew up there yesterday grading it as it comes into Westway.

thanks for the reminder about the pig getting the heave hoe at stowe. a shame. i have never skied there but have heard the stories about spruce being a powder heaven when everything else is tracked out at mansfield. besides, it was one of the oldest operating ski lifts and i like the old ones best :D the stowe development definitely tops out the biggest and boldest of improvements i think.

Dude: I love the analogy. I will shamefully admit that I never skied Spruce (I've only been to Stowe about 4 or five times and only one in the last 26 years.)

'Fraid I missed the boat there. Oh well. The price of sucess.
