i was just wondering what people had for rock skis, im planning on getting out alot more this year then i ddi last year, and instead of risking scratches on my $1300 pair of Rossignol Mutix's or my brand new K2 Fugatives, so i picked up a sick as pair of Rossignol cuts, i work at a shop so i was able to get them for cheap because they were from our rental fleet, and the bindings went bad, but the skis were in PERFECT shape..

What do you guys have for rock skis?

Is there anything that i can do do them that will spice them up a little bit, give them some character... i just dont want people to think that im that kid who's parents bought my hole setup, and i that have no respect for my equipment and just abuse it. i hope that made sense... trying to avoid that image!

Nice skis, but if you work at a shop you didn't pay anywhere near $1300, now did ya?

What do I do with rock skis? Ski on them! I will agree that having a pair extends my season and the conditions that I ski in...

I've got rock skis, powder skis, bump skis and groomer skis. The problem is they're all the same ski... ;)

Seriously though, my 2001 K2 Axis X Pros qualify as rock skis, but I really doubt I'll ever use them. I love my Volkl AC3s too much to not ski them. Skis I've had in the past I've given away after I'm done with them.

Skis are skis, no matter what time of year it is. It is hard to distinguish rock skis, etc... You get a new pair of skis during the off season you are most likely going to make some turns on them in the opening days. That is what p tex is for.

Right. The saying is, "all skis are rock skis".

Right. The saying is, "all skis are rock skis".

Unless they're race skis.

And the missing option from the poll:

Epoxy

(bonus points if it's holding structural components of the ski together)

I've been using my backup rock skis (a pair of 188cm Rossi 9S's, pre-super-sidecut-slalom skis) because my normal non-race (i.e. rock) skis went in for surgery shortly before the end of last season, but the surgeon took off for the summer before he got to 'em. He's supposed to be back at it this week, though, and he's already referred to 'em as an "interesting project." If you're wondering, they need surgery because I pulled the edge out of one ski about two and a half weeks after the first edge was surgically reinstalled.

I don't buy rock skis, I make my own. I start with brand new skis and I ski them. I tune them, I take care of them, and then I get a new pair. I keep the first pair, and I still ski them, tune them, care for them, but I'll take them out earlier and later and "save" the new pair for days of deeper base. (And sometimes they too make sacrifices to the P-tex gods). Then I buy another pair...

I've got powder skis, hardpack skis, BC skis, Powder/rock skis, Hardpack/Rock skis, rock/rock skis, Surface lift skies Poma skis, Poma/Rock skis (I call them "Poma/Granite" skies)

I guess my current skis are my rock skis, as I don't really care, and if I wan't to take a plundge down some sketchy trail and have fun with it, I will and not worry about my skis.

I tune my own skis, so Its not like I have to pay 50 bucks every three skier days to keepy my edges sharp, and bases waxed.

And that wax smells so dang good.

For the past two seasons Volkl g3, soon to be... salomon crossmax10. When I switch over depends on whether I can find good deals on new skis or if I sell or give away my old skis.

Good ski karma. I got one day one my new Heads last year and I'm hoping to get enough days to outgrow them this season. I'm trying to get my little bro into the sport. It would help if I can give him some gear.

yea, back when i used to ski board, i would use my 'pre-loved' pair as a beater pair. This year i was finally able to grab a pair of pure rock skis. Recently i have been on this 'NEW SKI' kick, and everyseason i have just sold me previous pair, and grabbed a new ski, this year i might have to watch the budgit a little close 30-40 trips to the mountain adds up no matter how cheap/ or free i can go

but im kinda looking forward to just, for lack of a better word, rape these new rocky's and do all the stupid stuff that i have always dreamed of..

its a good way to keep up on my ski doctoring.. or repair

The skis were in the shop. They were on the wall, maybe even in plastic. You said you wanted them. You gave the man some money. He took them off the wall and... drilled holes in them.:smash:

They've never been the same since. They never will. Might as well just run themover anything in your way. :daffy::spread:

As said above, they are all rock skis. They're just waiting for you to decide that.
