ragged mountain 1/29

this is my first POW day.
My goal was simple to get as much pow and first tracks (maybe not first track on the trail but at least where no one went yet). I got what I wanted:snow:

to my surprise RM groomed all green and most of the blue.
They got about 10--15 inches of snow. Of course uncrowded but trails from sixpack got tracked quickly. I stayed most of the morning at spear side slowly lift kept people away. Glades absurdly incredible snow deep almost nobody there. they are somewhat short but so sweeeeeet.

unfortunately no pictures

probably with old management entire mountain wouldn't be groomed. Not the case:(.
IMO Spear side shouldn't be groomed at all and Showboat opened from the morning NOT ski patrol leftovers and stories from them:puke:"it is not as good as you think"

anyway it was plenty of boots deep pow in the woods, on the side of the groomed trails on ungrown trails.
will be there Sunday for soft bumps

Congrats! But I think you mean "Ragged" though it does have its reasonably rugged spots ;-)

Funny, in my TR from there the other day I praised RM for leaving as much ungroomed as they do -- all the blacks and then some. Certainly a contrast to Sunapee which grooms pretty much everything edge to edge. Then yesterday I went to Mad River Glen, known for minimal grooming, and with a foot of fresh what did they do but groom most of the blues and greens ... I guess I understand that from a base-building perspective, and they did leave a couple blues as well as all blacks ungroomed -- more than enough freshies and chowder to play in, don't get me wrong -- but from my selfish perspective they could have waited a day ;-)

Anyhoo, I checked Ragged's trail map today and it look like they're just about 100% open, including the blacks crossing the ravine.

Your report gives no indication of any kind of crust or sleet layer, right? If I was reading the radar right they just barely missed getting nicked by some sleet.

Possible destination Sunday if I don't drive twice as far to MRG again.

but from my selfish perspective they could have waited a day ==>I guess this is correct as far my expectation for RM . Then again it's never enough in the day like yesterday of ungroomed trails;)

Your report gives no indication of any kind of crust or sleet layer, right? ==>correct. No any crusts sleep of any kind was there.

Possible destination Sunday=> PM if you like to meet up!

I was at MRG on Tues, sorry for no trip report -- but I could see why they groomed more than normal... they had a lot of ground cover showing, and high-traffic trails were pretty much ski'd off.....
