Riding the lift this morning with a local, he made a comment then Jay is no longer owned by the Canadians but was just sold to a Florida firm. I asked him if he was mistaken and was talking about Burke instead. He said no. His girl friend works in the hotel and has seen all the buyers come through and also gets her info from Bill Stenger. He did not what the name of the Florida firm was.

If your company HQ is located in state where it doesn't snow and there are no mountains, you should be banned from owning a ski area.

That's a little harsh..anybody or company with the means is entitled to own a ski area..

 I'm being a little tongue in cheek, sorry I didn't include any smilies. I actually think the arrangement that they have with Sugarloaf and Sunday River is working pretty good, but ski industry pros are running the show. The money just comes from FL. I have no idea what the deal with Jay is.

I wonder what kind of affect this will have on the West Bowl expansion; if it will kick start it or move it to the back burner.

I think that it will probably do some good for the mountain. It is my home mountain and some change around there will do the mountain good. I bet that the forum they had a few weeks ago is tied to this, the new owners wanted to see what the general public wants. If so, smart move, listen to the people. Don't get me wrong Bill Stenger has done some good things around there. It is not going to be a development boom, that is already going, all the condos, golf course, etc.... They do need some new money to complete the redevelopment of tramside, west bowl etc... I just don't want to see my $600 pass go through the roof.

I talked to several people at Jays welcome party tonight and no one would say any thing about a sale being final but that some thing is definitely in the works.

I think that who ever buys it would be interested in spending money on the upgrades at pace a lot faster then is currently happening. This would mean that the West Bowl and upgraded lifts would happen a lot sooner.

why replace the Jet with a HSQ? Jay is prone to windholds. Some days the Je tis the only chair spinning. If that were a HSQ that may make them inoperable for the day

you obviously don't know steeze very well. If he had it his way, there would probably be one high speed six pack for every two trails at all mountains.

I highly doubt this....it would have been in the news....as was said, MSSI and Stenger are content doing what they are doing....

Perhaps the title of this thread should be edited to read "Rumor:...." Just a thought as there is no collaborating evidence to suggest this is going to happen.

I agree. At this point it is purely a rumor. But in talking to this guy on the lift I got the feeling that there is a lot of truth behind what he said. Maybe they are just showing the place around to prospective buyers and no deal has been competed but something is going on.

Everytime I've been to Jay I have heard a lot of hot air...in 2003 I rode up the lift with an ambassador who motioned to West Bowl and said, "we're going to put lifts in their next year."

Well, it's 2008 and there ain't no lifts out there....

Yes there is a lot of hot air blowing around here. The golf course was hot air for over ten years. The West Bowl has been hot air for five years and at the current pace we may not see it for twenty years. An upgrade of their lifts is just hot air. Their hotel replacement with indoor water park is all hot air. The base lodge upgrade will hopefully start this spring but will believe it when I see it.

Most of this is what Bill Stenger would like to do at Jay but the problem and reason all these plans are just hot air is the Mont Saint-Sauveur will not spend any money on upgrades for the resort and we just watch all the profits Jay produce from lift tickets and real estate sales flow north over the border. Most of the money used for the golf course and base lodge upgrade have come from outside sources. Now that new real estate sales have slowed to a crawl I believe it is time that they sell Jay.

Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part but I hope it really is up for sale because without a new owner willing to spend some money we may never see a lot of necessary upgrades.
