I ski the singles line when I am not skiing with someone or with a group...which is often. It is fast and efficient. Some days if it is real crowded, I may use the line and rendezvous with others at the top. At most ski areas, they move the singles line very well.

How often do you do it? Why? When?

I use the singles line when I'm skiing along and when there is a liftline...duh..but if I'm skiing with other people and the regular line is really long..we split up and hop in the singles line...Every once in awhile..the singles line is uber-long and the regular line is really short so I pair up with other people in the regular line. With the advent of the I-Pod..it's tougher to sometimes get other peoples attention in the line.

I love liftline organizers because without them..alot of chairs go up with empty seats..

When I'm skiing solo or anytime that the regular line looks longer than ten - fifteen minutes and I think I'll get on the chair quicker via the singles line. This is especially true if the conditions are great. If it's just an ordinary hard pack groomer day, I'm more likely to have more patience and wait in the regular line. I like to talk to my ski partners on the chair lift as much as the next guy, but I'm there to ski ultimately.

If the lift line is long and the singles line is short... consider me a single
If the line is comparitive then I'll wait the extra few seconds..

Usually only when solo which is not very often. But we did hit the singles line once last year during Christmas week at Sundown. It was uber-crowded and the bumps were prime so the singles line made sense.

If I'm skiing with my wife, and the lines for the quads at Mount Snow are out of the ropes, we'll use the singles line. If the lines are in the ropes, we'll usually just wait them out. If we're skiing with our ski ready kid, we'll always ride together.

Unless the group lines are relatively short, we always do the singles lines. Our kids learned very early on it was usually the fastest way to the top.

Most often no singles line for me, because usually I have lots of people to ski with, but occasionally, I begin the day alone, thus use the singles line and play, what a friend calls, Jewish Geography.

Another reason to use the singles line is when the group I'm skiing with is "off" with the chair capacity, and someone is the odd skier out.
No matter which way you work it, its all good.

what's your response to people who either don't want to take a single, or are grumppy JO's about it?

Personally, i like to smile a lot and offer a hug... it's awkward and funny.

Next question,

What's your conversation like with your new friends... standard conditions where you from jumbo? or do you make up a persona and see how long you can last?

I once convinced greg I work at Sundown and would be attentive to AZ's questions. That was a good rib for sure.

If people don't want a single to join...too bad..If there's an extra seat..I'm taking it..

Some days I don't say anything...other times...I'll say "Wow the snow is nice today"...or "How's everybody doing"....or just eavesdrop..
