only ride the singles when skiing alone. when I'm with my buds we'll head to another area of the mtn if the lines get too long...easy to do at sunday river, even on a holiday weekend...we can always find a lift with little to no line.

what's your response to people who either don't want to take a single, or are grumppy JO's about it?

Personally, i like to smile a lot and offer a hug... it's awkward and funny.

Next question,

What's your conversation like with your new friends... standard conditions where you from jumbo? or do you make up a persona and see how long you can last?

I once convinced greg I work at Sundown and would be attentive to AZ's questions. That was a good rib for sure.

On a really busy day, people just need to learn to deal with it. However, the lifties need to show a balanced approach too. Once at Sundown, I went to board lift one with my 5 year old and asked the liftie if we could ride alone. She said, "No!" Sure enough, my daughter got flustered and her ski tore off. The chair was stopped; it would have been quicker if they just let the two of us ride the triple alone. Instead, everyone had to wait the few minutes to get the chair started again. It didn't bother me that much though. In a sense, it will force both of us to get our act together so in the end, we chalked it up as a learning experience.

As far as conversation, I'll usually start with a simple "how are you doing today?" I can tell after the first 2 words if the conversation will go any further.

Alot of times people don't answer because they have their I-Pod on...One guy told me he didn't want to talk because it would ruin his Zen..lol

My wife and I always ski together. We use singles lines whenever we can get on the lift quicker that way. You'd be amazed at how many times we still end up riding the lift together.

Well other than the locals who held their place in lines with skis..I get along with the people in Jackson Hole..Anyway holding your spot in a liftline with your skis is BS..and on the tram..that was a no-no..I'd love to hold a spot in line for concert tickets with my shoes...lol...

If I wouldn't have exited the singles line...I really believe I would have been assaulted and the lift ticket scanners wouldn't have done anything...so exiting the singles line and joining the masses in the regular line was the right decision to make.

The old Hippie on the Sanouks and the snowboarder in the Blue jacket with his helmet sitting on the ground would have definitely knocked out some of my teeth. I can't wait to get up extra early and be ahead of them in the singles line this January...:spin:

you need to be sitting there in line with a coffee and a camera just waiting for them to show up. that would be a priceless poster. or even better lay yourskies down after that your helmet and any other peices of clothing you can spare and say its your buddies stuff and you are just following the law of the land. anything to out dick him.
