Date(s) Skied: February 20th, 2008
Resort or Ski Area: Saddleback
Conditions: POWDAH
Trip Report: Ho boy. This was probably the best day for the salsgang family.... EVER.
Due to a freak mid-level wind yesterday... Saddleback was on total wind hold... so today's first run's were UNTRACKED MADNESS. We got clicked in about 8:35 and got early chairs up the hill. The first 5 runs were absolutely outstanding... 6-8" of untouched fresh. First run was Peachy's Peril to untracked Thrombosis glade. We just beat 2 teenagers to the glade and the salsgang clan hammered the fresh much to the dismay of the teenage youth. They tried to beat us down the glade but they crashed and burned.
We then took the quad up and hammered Intimidator glade (twice) which was the ROTD. We nailed Governor and Dark Wizard Glade. Upper Dark Wizard was a bit tight for the Old Geezer but the boyz and wife smoked it.
After the first 5 runs the masses appeared and the glades got tracked out quickly but still skied very well. I hit black beauty, one of the new trials from the top. Two thumbs up! Lots of soft snow. I thought both Supervisor and Golden Smelt skied extremely well also.
Cold in the single numbers and breezy... but outstanding. It was busy for Saddleback terms... Lodge was jammed and there was a 5 min wait at the Rangeley double... but ski on for the upper quad and t-bar. I think Loafer89 was there... didn't get a chance to meet up but maybe he can chime in on his day.
We will remember this one for a while.
