Rangely makes so much of its winter revenue from snowmachine tourons, which is good for them. My issue is with the noise. Most of the accommodations in the area understandably have snowmobile access. The last think I need is machines coming in at midnight, 1, 2 and 3 am, or reving up at 5AM for the next day, which seems to be a common occurrence.

Any suggestions about where to stay for peace and quiet? The only place that comes to mind is slope-side, which Saddleback aims to increase for exactly this reason.

Your thoughts?

Skied there the last 2 seasons. Stayed slopeside both times. Very convenient and some nice options. We've gone in January (yes it can be CRAZY cold) but the slopeside rates were very reasonable for ski-in/out.

I'm used to the cold, having grown up at this latitude. $175 a night minimum 2 nights is a bit much here...

I think just stay away from the lake. On mtn prob your best best. They get drunk and then drive circles on the lake all night ...

Stay on the west side of the lake....in Oquossoc village...the sleds don't go over there nearly as much
I have a seasonal rental on the lake this year on the NW Corner of the lake.
Reason being, the lake narrows over there into the cove and the sleds typically stay out in the open part of Rangeley.

Oquossoc's Own B+B would prob work out well for you.....15 mins from Saddleback max
If you didn't mind a 25 min drive and really wanted peace and quiet, I highly reccomend the Star Barn in Madrid.....very nice little place off Rte 4. $85 per night dbl occupancy and includes a nice big breakfast in the AM

My wife and I stayed there last February for Valentines Day wknd and headed up to Saddleback both days w/o any probs.

Have Fun! See ya up there this season!
