School's back in session - carefull driving

The schools in Jersey usually start the Wednesday after Labor Day but my son's school starts Wed. September 3rd this year.

In my hometown in MA, we start the Tuesday before Labor Day, which is late this year...but we have vacation weeks in December/January, February and April. Last day of school is least 15 June if we have zero snow days.

Growing up in NJ I only remember getting the Christmas/New Year week and the week after Easter off.

Don't know about other folks town's, but a good number of public schools around my house and office are back in session starting this morning. Everyone take a little extra care on the roadways!

Yes, they're all three overweight.

I feel for the fat kids..not only do they get made fun of but all the health complications from eating cheesy poofs and devil dogs to the max will stink for quality of life..

I had a quarter mile walk to the end of the street just 7 years ago. I think the K-5 did more of a house to house.

Whatever will the kids nowadays think about the South Park kids waiting at a bus stop?

In PA there aren't vacation weeks except at Christmas..and Easter vacation is just 3 extra days off..

I went to an urban school district and the schools I attended were 1-2 miles away. There was no bussing except for special needs kids. You either walked, got a ride or rode the city bus and it's still that way. I'm glad my school days are over...I prefer work to school..even without having summer vacations..

And you wonder from time to time why parent's tell their kids to get away from the road when they see you coming on your bike :lol:

Growing up, 1st & 2nd grade were a half mile walk. There was no bus. 3rd through 5th grade was a little more than a mile walk. We used to play things like hot box at the bus stop until the bus came and then walk or ride bicycles to school. The only time we took the bus was when it was pissing r&in or stooopid cold out. In high school before I had a car, I used to hitch hike to school most mornings so I could sleep an extra half hour. Smallish town. Everbody knew everybody. My dad had a home dental/oral surgery office and I was standing right in front of the house. If somebody was headed past the high school on their way to work, they'd stop. I'd have the 5 minutes of 'how's the family' pleasantries.

It's not a dislike. It's the fact that 24 hours a day, every day, it's all I do right now. And after a while, the normal sibling fighting, "exploration" of the house which results in large messes, getting into things they shouldn't, etc, is tiring. Very tiring. You go to work and get a break from your kids, right? I don't. I love them very much--but everybody needs a break. And sleep at night doesn't count because mine *still* wake up 1-4+ times a night on a regular basis.

That's okay...next week *I* go back to school so that's when things will get really interesting around here...

I agree w/ this. I am a working dad, get home after 6-7 most days of the week. My wife busts her ass taking care of our son and will say "get him away from me" when I walk in the door. Does she dislike him, far from it. She just needs some time to herself, as does everyone. Dads seem to get more than the moms. Since my son was born 2 1/2 years ago, I have been fortunate enough to go on a few ski trips out west, etc... because she is there. When I come home I make sure that she gets her time also, try to at least. Even when I am at home, at least once a week, I have a work related evening function or golf thing, etc.... Being a mom she doesn't get that. So, I can understand where the comments come from. People take things way too seriously.

I also agree, the little bastards should look both ways before crossing.
