Jay Peak or Wildcat? Wildcat is $169. Jay Peak is $285. Jay Peak is about a 3:45 drive. Wildcat is about 2:45. It actually snows at Jay Peak.

Based on your drive times and pass prices, I selected Wildcat. I'm not a "I have to ski powder" kind of guy though. I'm more interested in mileage. Quantity over quality if you want to say it that way. I get the impression you're of the reverse mentaility though so this may or may not help you... ;)

Jay has legendary pow...

Seeing as how I've already got an ASC passs, I chose Jay as a secondary.

I still am curious as to how you can afford the gas to get to each one.....

On a serious note, it is best with a season pass to get one that will pay for itself and is for an area that you can get to enough to justify it. And IIRC you're going to be in school soon....so maybe go for the cheaper one and save the extra $$$ for next season....when you get the real deals and will be MUCH closer to the mtns. Have you considered Cannon?

college student? I think there is a cannon/gunstock/sunapee pass for real cheap. I think it's a real smart idea to be spread out across new england as much as possible so you can go where the snow is.

Cannon's pass is over $300
Burkes pass is $379

Nope, not a college student. I'm a high school senior.

for those prices get both

I'm too cheap. Also, I don't think either one would pay off if I got both.

Like I said Cannon is too much money Also $115 isn't that large of difference.

One thing you made me think of for some reason is that this would be my last season with a Wildcat pass, whereas I will probably have a Jay pass all four years in college.

Yeah, I'm sort of the second. I'm getting a Wawa pass though...

I drive from Cape Cod to Jay just about every weekend. I have had a pass there the past 3years. Ski about 30 days/year. The drive and the gas are a pain, but it is worth it. My vote is Jay. Wildcat is half the distance, but almost the same time. You need to think if you want to waste time on Route 16 or drive on open highway like Route 91. Good luck!

Jay which gets more snow than Vail, and has phenomenal tree skiing, compared to Wildcat, where I learned to ski in the 70s, that is basically a big iceblock....And all it costs is an extra 40 minutes and $100 bucks?

Oh. Then I change my mind. You'll get plenty of mileage out of the Wa Wa pass. Go for Jay to ski the terrain you truly love.

Do you have a place to stay at either? I drove 3.5 hours to the Loaf for the past 3 years but I never did it just for a day trip, I would always make it a weekend or long weekend. Nearly 8 hours round trip is an awfully long way to drive for a day trip.

I've played these games Austin! The long drive may not seem like much now, but man it can turn into a killer by March. I know you are gung-hoe now, but watch out the cost of gas gets to be pretty expensive. That being said, the Jay pass is not very much money and you'll break even rather quickly. Plus the pow is legendary! I know what I'd do!

No place to stay at either. Driving doesn't really bother me at all though, as long as there is no traffic and no snow on the roads.

Yeah, I understand the drive starting to feel killer in time, but as long as there is powder I can take it. Gas won't be too bad as long I only do it once a week. It is about $30 for the whole trip.

Anyway, I talked to my dad and ended up getting a Wildcat pass. I figure that as long as I get 4 days there it is payed off, which won't be hard. I can justify driving to Wildcat for okay conditions, but not Jay. Atleast at Wildcat I go up to to Hojo's or the bowl in the morning if the conditions blow. Also when it hasn't snowed Wildcat is ussually okay, Jay on the other hand is terrible. I'm still not sure whether I will get a Jay pass too. Right now I'm thinking I will just go the day ticket or touring way. If it is a powder day I will just cough up the money for a day pass, and if it hasn't snowed in a few days I just do some touring in the notch or something like that.

So Salida where are you getting a pass? Also, you work sunday right?

Austin, I have a pass at ASC mountains, I sell college passes for them... Ya, I know it doesn't always go with my stigma towards those mountains. But many kids at my school love ASC mountains and will go out of their way to get a pass. It really is a good deal for me to ski more than free for the entire year.

As for the rest of the mountains, I dislike being tied to one mountain. If conditions look like they are going to be good for January break (dec 15-jan20) I will pony up for a College pass at Cannon or Jay, depending how conditions look. I typically don't work on the weekends, and being a college student have discression as to which midweek days I take off. In all honesty, I'm planning on doing some extended tours in the Presi's this winter which may contribute to not buying a pass anywhere. That and I'm going to summit county in the beg of Jan, a week at SR with the college ski club, and then a week in France in March, all of which will dwindle my meager earnings down to nothing! (that and a pair of endorphins, and i'm looking at a pair of legend pro riders)!!

If the lifts turn this weekend/or some snow falls for sunday, I'm sure I'll head to the hills.

PS EDIT: Brother and I talked about it tonight, looks like the college $225 pass at Cannon, Sunapee, and Gunstock, will fufill our other needs. If its fluffing up in VT we'll dole out the day rates at Jay/find some comps.

I am a proud member of the two pass club but I know that I'll get my moneys worth with little driving. I have a Sugarbush pass for when I'm at school, and an ASC pass (Sun-Fri for $230) for hitting up the Loaf during winter break and spring break.
