I am planning on doing 2 short jersey sections of the AT this coming weekend, and was wondering is anyone had possibly done the 2 sections I plan on completing.

I will be doing Southbound from Culver Lake to the Deleware water gap. Doesnt look at all technical and very little elevation gain, just wondered if there was anything I needed to know in particular. The AT book I have is for NY and NJ sections and has pretty detailed directions but seems to follow gravel roads and whatnot quite a bit and wondered if that was "hard to follow"..

I know the last half as i've done Sunrise Lake MANY TIMES and know that portion is rather simple.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have no NJ trail experience at all, I've driven twice to High Point. That said, I know the NJ section of trail has the highest bear concentration per mile of trail, so hang your food away from your camp site, just as you would elsewhere.

Funny you should say that the AT book for NY/NJ says the EXACT same thing in particular about the 2 sections I am doing. I just purchased

http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/s...6&storeId=226&catalogId=40000000226&langId=-1

little bigger than I thought, but not a worry..better bigger than smaller. didn't figure I needed a canister, so the bag will have to do. The book says the same..to hang food. Not really bringing much (only an overnight), but what I do will be hung.

Thanks for the advice.

Hey Dog, remember that bears have a much broader definition of food than humans...things like lotion, sunblock, toothpaste, soap, and anything else that a bear can put in its' mouth and swallow is food to them. Put all of that stuff into the bag and hang it.

Another GREAT piece of information. Maybe I should just hoist my whole pack up a tree? Can't hurt...eh..I got the bag..be fun to try it.

thanks and keep any info anyone feels is pertinent to the situation..THANKS BIG TIME.
