Seeded Moguls Coming to Killington for 09-10 Season
Another question for Tom: care to share to what extent feedback that you've seen online on forums like AZ and K-zone has lead to this decision? I would just be curious to see what impact we've had, or whether there has also been significant number of other request via standard communication channels.
yeah greg it didn't take long ... happy to see k realizing they need to offer some seeded, maintained bump runs and yeah letting ol, supe & ovation develop nat bumps is a good thing ... however, lower vertigo has had the consistently best bumps on the mtn the past two seasons on (for the most part) natural snow. so this is sort of addition by subtraction imho. how about adding a seeded bump line on another trail.
as for the comment, "And of course, we can’t forget Superstar’s super bumps on a warm spring day!"actually we had pretty much forgotten - reality check, supe has been brutally groomed into submission the past few seasons.
Hey SpinmasterK - what is K's philosophy on grooming moguls, and then letting them reform?
Edited to add: I'm interested in the mountain ops philosophy, not marketing. So if Jeff is interested in sharing his position on moguls and grooming, that would be fantastic.
I think Chris summed it up best in the Ski Area Challenge:
Chris Nyberg : Thank you for your question. In spending time on the mountain and listening to our guests, I have come to understand the importance of moguls for some of our guests. Offering moguls, natural and manmade on a season-long basis has been moved up our ladder of importance. Our guests will find more moguls than they have in the past on specific trails that we will advertise on the daily snow report and our Blog at Insider.Killington.com.
Right... I actually quoted Chris on that one over on my site, IIRC. But I guess I'm looking for a little more info on the actual mountain operations perspective. Mountain ops is my business, and moguls are my business! So naturally, I like to see how different resorts choose to relate the two.
Yeah, I hear ya. I don't ski Killington that often, but the past few times I have Vertigo is already generally ungroomed and moguled. It had some of the best bumps I've skied that season on Lower Vert in April of 07. Still actually seeding the run, labeling it a terrain park, and acknowledging a greater effort to offer mogul skiing at Killington again is still a very good thing IMO. Definitely makes me more interested in visiting. I'll keep an eye out for when the bumps get built. I hope they get positive feeback and the brutal grooming in the spring is reduced as a result.
i agree that it's great they've come to the realization that they need to offer more and better bump skiing. kudos to this site because i think you were heard.
Oh, by the way, let me say it before someone else does first:
Seeded bumps are for posers.
You seem like a righteous dude, skiadikt. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to rip some lines this season.
Killington must be jealous of what certain competitor's have to offer (Sun) Down south!
