Hmmm, all sounds very good. If we stay east, Jay might be the place! Thanks all, good sales job.

Not visible much from that angle. So where is the 50' wide clear cut?
Not visible much from that angle.
Not visible much from any angle!!! Until you get there! When you get there, you can't miss it... People won't probably like it too much... but it's hard to ride anything else once you reach the top and see all that open stuff! Super wide and open turns aren't too common around here... but then, it gets the gapper all over if you still allow access via the resort.
Totally different subject... but still one that pisses me off!
Couldn't agree with you more! Never got up there last year though. Is my understanding that access will be allowed from the resort this year correct?
Didn't see anything about that anywhere... I hope it stays closed... There is still a gate at the ridge...
Traffic was less last season... but still... The place needs to regrow... but it will probably never will...
The press release is posted on my web page. It circulated the net about three or four weeks ago but I couldn't find an official source online. Supposedly there was a mid-week meeting at Jay Peak a few weeks back about the announcement but I haven't heard any follow up from that meeting. Then again, the blockheads scheduled the meeting mid-week so I don't know how many people they were expecting to show up. At last year, it was during a weekend during ski season so it was well attended.I saw that they were allowing access again as well, maybe Steve posted it or maybe in some press release. Or maybe some one else posted something about it. Can't remember where, but I know I saw it.
Is the French-Canadian influence strong at Jay? Noticeable at all? Does it add anything special to the place?

You are aware that the entire state of Vermont was clear cut in the second half of the 19th century? There's basically zero old growth forest anywhere in the state and you'd be hard pressed to find a tree in the state that is 150 years old. A 50 foot cut on Big Jay will be mostly invisible in 25 years and completely gone in 50 years. Acid rain is doing far more damage than trail cutters with chainsaws.

Any ways, access is open only after it is deemed there is enough snow and closed when too much snow has melted or something along those lines. Skiing the cut is still prohibited but I suspect many folks are still going to do it. Won't be me.
Well, I have a copy of it posted. I claim no ownership and would like a link to original source if anyone has found any.Thanks. I actually meant Steve (Wright) of Jay Peak when I said "Steve", but cool that it was you who has the press release
