Trails(s) Hiked: Harriskat Trail to summit of Skatutakee Mt. Thumbs Up trail to Thumb Mt., Thumbs Down Trail to Jacks Pond.
Total Distance:4.9
Difficulty:Easy to Moderate
Conditions:Freezing Rain, Sleet, Snow, Rain, wintery mix.
Special Required Equipment:Some kind of traction...
Trip Report:
It was a really sketchy drive getting here, ice covered absolutely everything. Harriskat Trail ascent was relatively easy, some places almost moderate. The trail takes you through a boulder field, and hardwood forest. The boulder field was pretty exciting. As you near the summit the trail becomes more moderate, and ascends a ledge. The summit is bare with scrub oak, and was socked in with fog. It was actually pretty surreal looking due to all of the ice. Thumbs up trail was pretty well marked, and the summit of Thumb Mountain was also socked in with fog. This had ledges and would have had some nice views I suspect.
The weather alone, made this trip really cool. Harris pond was also very surreal looking. This would be a great place to bring your little ones. I plan on going back with my little ones someday.
