Resort: Ski Butternut
Date Skied: 12/11/2005 (12:30 - 3:45)
Conditions: Sunny with some clouds, about 35 degrees.
Trip Report:
Unlike some of you who enjoyed the fresh snow On Friday and Saturday, I had to wait until Sunday to ski. I decided to go up to Butternut as I left my house at 11:30am and it was to late to go to Mount Snow at that time. I was prepared to meet thousands of skiers and waiting in long lift lines.
As I pulled into the Butternut entrance I did see tons of cars with free spaces in between. I decided to park in the upper lot and was going to walk up or use the rope tow (if operational) to get to where I could ski down to the Top Flight Quad. It ended up being a short walk up.
There were no lift lines at the TF or Highline Quad. In fact there were no corrals set up. Where was everybody?? I asked some people and they said it was packed on Saturday and early on Sunday.
The trails down were Pied Piper to Fiddler / West Way, Whip, Main St or Nut Hatch to the bottom. By the time I was there Whip was hard pack and slick . Main St was my pick as all of the fresh snow was on the right or left side and most of the ski traffic was in the center on the scratchy surface. There was some nice small and soft bumps forming on the right side of Main St.
I did get a chance to ski in some untouched snow on the rope tow area. I was kind of surprised that there was untouched areas of powder over there.
All in all a great afternoon.
