Agreed! I received both my Ski and Skiing magazines over the weekend, and I was very excited! Less than 3 months to go!

so how did u guys like the reviews for the skis and boots, personally i thought it was pretty bad, but i have learnt to not expect much from ski mag. 80-90mm powder skis, man get with the times!!! plenty of people outwest everyday ski is fatter than that. And no twintip/freestyle ski catagory, I'm not really into that but i would atleast think they would add it.

the clientel ski mag cators to definitely isn't hitting the park or going big  you gotta expect reviews catored towards who actually reads the mag and supports its advertisers. i took a quick flip through and wasn't too impressed with the review write ups of skis i know or have skied on, definitely felt they could have been more descriptive. but even in reviews, mags go for writing style rather than content. i did like the idea of giving profiles of the testers and showing which testers liked which skis best. i believe it is ESSENTIAL to a ski review to know when the person reviewing the skis prefers and has a tendency to ski.

AMEN RIV!
here is what i posted over at k-zone....

"I receved my issue yesterday.
Ski mag.
What a let down, the revues were about vague as one could get.
It was written 4 the "10 second"sound bite crowd that abounds in our society.
The editors omited 4 some reason one of the most importiant componets in writeing a revue the "Turning Radius"!
Ok they gave the tip, waist and tail dimensions,But does anyone know what thoes numbers amount to?
ok if you look at thoes numbers you could, by deduction figure out if a ski has a larger foot print, or not.
With out the TR numbers how is one to know how fast or slow the ski is going to react?
Or if it will be agile it will be while skiing in the bumps or through the trees.
Flex?
What about the flex pattern. that too is imformation that is needed.
and somehow again not found in thier revues.
As soon as I finish posting thei revue of thier revue I am sending Ski mag. in my resume.
I hope Skiing does a better job with thier revues.

Fer got to add this followup post

And that guy Paul Hochtman was the one who did the downhil ski test (or he was involved in it) He's the most visible ski tech guy out there these days. Does he oversee the testing to make sure there's a smattering of integrity?

How 2 put this?
All of theese so called "Revues" are funded by the ski manufacturers....need I say more?
overherd at one ski test...

Sleezy marketing guy: Hey Hochtman, Here is $30,000.00 for your mag's marketing deparment, make things happen.....wink,wink....

Hochtman:Cool, that sure is a nice thing that you just did, but Mr. sleeze...You do Know that we are not Biased when we test skis....wink,wink.....

take it from there.lets look at it this way just 4 a second, all the testers are Elite skiers and not the joe schmoe skiers that make up the 90% of the of all that participate in our wonderfull sport.

I haven't subcribed to either for years. Some years one, or both show up. Sometimes not. Somtimes I get the first couple of issues, then they disapear.

I'm finding the only thing I've really looked at in the last few years have been the reviews and most of the time I've found the reviews to be next to useless. I've found I'm better asking skiers who get a lot of days in for their opinions and then hit the demo days.

It's nice to see some pix, etc., but I'll save my money for fuel

well, you can't expect a bad review from any ski mag regarding a ski who pays to advertise in that same mag. it isn't going to happen. since they have a limited amount of space, they only cover select skis they have something good to say about. i was quite frankly shocked to see the words "best all mountain ski" next to the legend 4800  maybe for an intermediate aspiring to go off piste, but c'mon. not as bad as ski mag's online site confusing the 8800 with the 8000 in which they review the 8000 and give it's dimensions but title the review the 8800. it's been up there for a year now with no correction

epicski's gear discussion is still one of my favorite places to go to see what people think about various skis. it's far better doing a demo day and asking the reps what you should be skiing based on your ability and desire rather than buying what the ski rag sayz.

A lot of bitchin bout the articles and the reviews. I just get em for the pics and don't expect much more.

Same here! Now where the hell are my copies? I don't know if I even have a subscription any more. I got duplicates of a couple of mags in June or July (at least one from February) so I guess I can't be too suprised if I never get one in the mail.

FYI, subscriptions to SKI and SKIING can be had for free by filling out online surveys...

Not to mention - length tested and lengths in which the ski is available. Some of the reviews mentioned what length was tested but often that was omitted and I don't think a single review mentioned the lengths available.

Also, the categories -- give me a break. They put completely different skis in the same non-existent category without any of the basic tech info. I think it's intended to confuse readers so much they just walk into a store, submit to the first salesman on the floor, and pay full retail.

Give me www.ts2003.com and epicski any day.

Rant over.

If you want eye candy just go on TGR and look at some of there trip reports

It's OK; I've got vacation pics of myself that would fit right in. I'm sure you do too.

I was talking about those professionally staged shots you see in the ski rags where the pro freerider on a 60 degree pitch kicks up a perfect rooster tail of fresh snow so that the snow flakes twinkle and glitter in the slowly setting sun in the sky that is various shades of pink and purple.

That's eye candy!
