Really???? I think you may want to rethink that one. Let me guess, you think Hunter is "the bomb"?

well keep over looking. and if you go there dont go in the woods. theres nothing fun.

Same goes for Hunter... No woods there... Please look elsewhere... Catskills suck for BC opps...

That article is kinda slanted - but thats cool - WF does have more to offer.. It's easy to write an article comparing Hunter to WF and slant it... Hunter has lost a bunch of what it used to be... Resturants and bars are closing one by one.. And gifted chefs are going elsewhere... :(

Hard core NYC partying in Hunter is something of a ghost from the past.. Most bars have closed or burned.. the area is littered with grand empty buildings that used to be happing spots and now wait to be burned down...

Most of the partying is now apres ski at the hill and then head to someones house for diner.. Many of the hard edge 1980's and 1990's ski partiers are now raising kids and the younger crowds seem to gravitate towards other areas now...

The area is transforming into the exact opposite of what people expect and wrongly report on based upon old sterotypes....

But for those of us who have stuck it out, we still enjoy the terrain and the snow making, the close proximity to NYC and the hope of expansion in the future..

Hunter is what it is... I like it... And all my friends do as well... We're no slouches on boards... Hunter represents highly in moguls contests and still has a great race program..
You can find Hunter regulars at Tuckermans, extreme skiing in France and on the podium of the Bear mountain mogul Challange at KMart...

Hunter has soul... It may not be evident looking through the lens of the partying and crowded past - but to those of us who are lucky enough to see it through the haze of bad press and old stereotypes...
It's a pretty kick ass place to spend time on snow...

Hunter is a place I definatly want to check out.

Gores summit area is sweet, but their main area serviced by the gondi and whatnot is quite boring. No park (not that I care but it just seems dumb). The glades are Gore on the other hand can only be beaten by Stowe IMO.

Hey, how come dmc doesn't get a photoshopped "Rambo" portrait?

Excellent post Doug. Hunter is definitely not "the bomb"...go somewhere else.

I am so confused by this article. I'm disappointed that the article is so off-base. As already mentioned, Hunter isn't a party town anymore...far from it. This article is cool and was first featured on MSNBC, but there's no value to it when it's all wrong...everything new and nice about the resort and area are completely overlooked. I've also received three phone calls thus far (in the last two weeks) requesting shots of K-27....weird???

Changed my u/n by the way :)

That's what you're up against Jessica...old impressions of a ski area that are long past untrue and almost in the ancient history category.

Yet some skiers and alot of the media hang onto those old ideas...and never bother to get the facts about what Hunter is like today.

I wind up alternating between trying to educate and throwing my hands up and telling folks to go somewhere else to complain.

Just a typical day in internet land..
I actualy read the article a while ago - was going to post about it... But thought better of it..

We still party in Hunter... But the golden age of clubbing is long gone..
Heartbreak Hotel, Tequillas, (old)Slopes, Tanners, Redfox, Mt Brook, Mahogany Run, etc.... Are all gone... And thats just a short list.. i could add a few more places on...

Is it just me or do others wish they were about 21 again and able to experience Hunter in its party-scene hay-day?

Ahhhhhhhh.... The hayday...

Arrive Friday night... Hit the Redfox for a burger and a beer... Walk accross the street to HVI for a couple... Walk down to my favorite place, Tequillas and do some shots and catch up with local gossip... Then wander over to the The Heartbreak Hotel for the "War Zone" disco to open at midnight - play pool in the main bar until the let us in to the War Zone... Stay there for a few drinks then wander back to Tequillas to end the night..

Now we drink at the lodge and walk accross the street ti McGreggors... But it's just not the same...

This is exactly why I have returned to Hunter in the past few years. In fact, I've even purchased at the Kaatskill Mountain Club because I enjoy the Hunter area enough that I felt it was worth it. There was a long period that I stopped going to Hunter mainly due to the crowd (both #'s as well as the type of people). I like that fact that Hunter has lost some of the aggresive crowd to places like Killington. Then again, I'm up at Killington a lot too, so I just end up seeing them there, but it's all good. Bottom line is that Hunter, as well as the whole Catskills in general, is in the middle of transition period. In the end I feel it will all be for the better.
