Date(s) Skied: 1/25/2009

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, CT

Conditions: COLD (4*F at start, low 20s at finish), clear skies, sunny, packed powder, firm, some nicely churned up powdery stuff

Trip Report: Late start again... got on the hill maybe 9:20ishAM to see Jeff loading on the chair. Didn't think he saw me so I took my first run down Canyon. Firm cord on the left and some cookies, but not bad. Pretty much avoided the Ex bumps though. I talked to Chris before hitting the hill and I think I was psyched out by his report on the condition of the bumps: basically, stay out, they're icy. :) Took a few more runs down Nor'Easter before I finally found Jeff waiting at the sundeck. Other than instructors setting up cones in the middle of Ex, today was pretty good. The Maries were great; I was feeling pretty confident on them and letting it loose. Even beat Jeff to the bottom of Nor'Easter a few times. ;) The part of Ex at the bottom of Stinger was really nice; some really churned up powdery stuff there that skied beautifully. Just a nice day out. Toes were cold, but not bad. The down jacket took care of the cold, even though it's not the most flattering look.

Thanks for skiing with me Jeff!

Great conditions like usual. Couldn't get into a groove on the lower ex bumps and after few tries, stuck to the groomers. Carrie definitely was carrying some speed today with a lot less turns, was pretty much right on my tails, if not in front of me the whole day, great job.

Not much if any traffic on Temptor, when we were leaving around lunch time there was a lot of untouched cord leading from the bottom bumps to Ex.

Thanks again for the cookie things, had 3 on the ride home and just finished the last ones now, delicious! One of these days we will attract some other people to ski with us.:)

Found things pretty good as well Didn't arrive until 11:30, but the crowds were quite sparse for a lovely sunday. What did they do the bumps on Noreaster- kinda useless now. Temptor was quite nice, upper part nice big and gnarly, bottom still needs some more snow/traffic. Not too slick considering the thaw/freeze. Ex bumps are slowly improving- getting a little narrower and less slick. Gunny was nice all day. Things started to get a little skiied off in the afternoon, but not nearly as bas as usual on a Sunday.

Those bar cookies are now one of the faves here. :D I forgot how much I really liked those skis until I got on them yesterday; lots of confidence on them (as long as there's no ice) and I was really enjoying picking up some speed. :D

Not sure about the Ex bumps other than they keep expanding from people skiing in new bumps on the edges. Maybe a top-coating will help them?
