Conditions: Packed Powder - Variable
Trip Report:
I got to the slope for my first time out at 7:15pm for a little night skiing, booted up, and hit the slope by 7:30. I decided I would "run the hill" from skiers right to left, which works great for a first day at Sundown since that gives you 3 greens, then 2 blues, and closing with 3 blacks. Great warm up! First run was VERY shaky! My balance was off, muscles wouldn't engage, and hips were lazy. I felt like I was going to fall over. Run 2 and 3 were slowly getting better, but those greens just weren't forcing me to get quick. On to the blues. Hips started to free up and my muscles started to work a little better. On to the blacks. Ah, much better. My hips started firing and the body was feeling better and better with every run. I took a quick IO break, and headed back up to get a little more aggressive until closing time. They fired up the guns at 9:30ish so the last half hour was a lot of fun.
The conditions were very good. Packed powder on most of the mountain. The Exhibition runout had quite a few sections of boilerplate and Gunny was covered with death cookies but other than that, it was great. I was a little bummed about Gunny since that is one of my favorite runs to work out the kinks. With all of those death cookies, I only ran it 3 times. Stinger was my trail of choice today. I found some nice, clean lines down it and, much to my surprise, it seems like everyone forgets there is snow on the skiers right and gravitate toward the park side of the trail. There was corduroy all along the right with only a few tracks in it all night. Oh.. and those few track? Mine! ;-) Loved it!
All in all, I was skiing for slightly over 2 hours and got 18 runs in. I couldn't have asked for a better first day on the slopes. Did it scratch the itch? Nope. I want to skip the rest of the day and go back! :-D
