Date(s) Skied: Wednesday, 12/26/2007, 6:30pm - 8:45pm

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, Connecticut

Conditions: Fresh groomed manmade and LSGR on the flats. Some dry, some wet manmade, hardpack, ice & dirt in the bumps. (Greg, I'm just going to copy you because it really was a grab bag tonight... just about everything possible, other than powder.)

Trip Report: Based on Brian's report of how skiing was earlier today, I brought the Dynastar Novas (and I was in a hurry to get out of the house before he changed his mind so I left the Marie Martinod TTs behind.... BIG MISTAKE!) Wasn't as busy as I expected, but it was steady. No waits for the lifts. All 4 lifts were running (only thing that wasn't was the magic carpet). Instead of my usual Sunnyside warmup, I went straight for the top on lift 1-Tom's Treat was being groomed. So I headed down Canyon Run but had some problems immediately. CR hadn't been groomed yet and I was catching edges left and right. Death cookies were also on the menu. :( Have I told you how much I've decided I hate these skis? :x

In any case, made my way down as quickly as I could (ski patrol was clearing out CR so it could be groomed) and went back up lift 1. Decided to try Tom's Treat/Papoose for a proper warmup and acquainting myself with these skis. Hated them even more after that run. Plus my feet were starting to hurt like they used to (the only thing I can figure is that it was 36 degrees, I overdressed, and I wore my socks on the way there - my feet probably swelled up too much).

Instead of throwing in the towel due to my unhappy feet and ski experience, I decided to head over to Sunnyside to practice technique. Sunnyside wasn't really busy at all and I had ample opportunity to work on quieting my upper body and quicker turns on Sensation and Big Bend.

Returned to lift 1... and my boots were bothering my feet again by half way down Tom's. I did notice on this run though that nobody was skiing the bumps on Nor'easter (though some were dabbling on Exhibition). Where were all of you? ;)

Back to Sunnyside... felt like I made some technique progress at least and decided to head home before the baby got too cranky and ruined my chances of getting away again for a night by myself. ;)

Lesson learned: when dabbling with skis you've barely used, don't leave home the ones you know you like. And never wear your ski socks on the way, even if it's only a 25 min drive. I could have had a much more enjoyable night (and spent less time on Sunnyside) if I had adhered to this.

Still better than staying home with our cranky teething baby, though. ;)

Glad you made the best of the night. Too bad about your boots giving you issues. I'm glad to not hear anything about your knee though. :D

And no, I never wear my ski socks to the mountain, but that's more so I don't sweat in them which leads to cold feet...

Definitely impossible to have cold feet tonight. I made the mistake of bringing the insulated bibs for pants, which had me sweating away as it was. Plus midweight base layers. Skiing mostly at night, I'm not used to these tropical temps. ;)

Knee was awesome. Considering how poorly I was skiing due to control issues with the skis I brought, I expected some problems. Even 2 days ago it was still aching. But there were no knee issues during the entire night. A comfort for sure.
