Date(s) Skied: Sunday, 12/30/2007, 6:15pm - 9pm
Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, Connecticut
Conditions: 35*F, cloudy then snowy, MG LSGR
Trip Report: Arrived to a very busy base area. Long lines at the ticket windows and lift 2 was still out of operation, so lift 1 was hopping. I headed over to Sunnyside for some warm-up runs. Felt pretty good, so I got into the long line for lift 1. No singles line either. Started on Tom's Treat while they did some trail grooming. Another long wait. Next time around was Canyon Run. During that run, it began snowing. Another long wait. Then Upper Nor'Easter cutting over to Canyon Run. By this time, I didn't feel like waiting waiting waiting, so I went back over to Sunnyside for some runs on Big Bend and Sensation. Skied right up to the chair every time. After some time, returned to lift 1 to find it much less crowded. Decided to try Temptor again (which some may remember my past incident on Temptor, which screwed up my knee for 2 weeks). I was a bit nervous about skiing to the left of the bumps on Nor'Easter to get to Temptor - had there been anyone on the trail, I probably wouldn't have done it. Luckily, I was all by myself. In any case, it wasn't pretty, but I got down it. Then 2 more runs down upper Nor'Easter to Canyon Run before calling it a night.
Snow was a nice loose granular. Thick in spots. Once the snow started falling, it turned into some really nice stuff. Still not used to snow with resistance (LOL) having mostly skied on hardpack in the past (night skiing at Mohawk), but I'm learning to like this a lot.
