Date(s) Skied: Monday, 2/26/2007, 7:10 pm - 10:00 pm
Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, CT
Conditions: Packed powder, some scratchies, Temps in the 20's/near 30, Light to moderately accumulating snow.
Trip Report: Tonight would prove to be a bizaare night. It started off on my old 182 cm K2 Axis X Pros as the AC3s are in the shop. Skis felt pretty good and more nimble than I remembered. Got to the top of the bumps on Nor'easter and noticed they were all flattened out! Not groomed totally, but certainly knocked down. Really no consistent lines to be found.
Met up with Grassi21 and we took a few runs on Nor'easter. Chris looked pretty good through the now bumplets so in a sense the flattening of them a bit was good for him. Next weird thing to happen was at the bottom of the Exhibition bumps. Just hanging at the bottom waiting for Chris when a kid on a snowboard plows right into me. I didn't even see it coming which was probably a good thing. He took me out at the legs and knocked a ski off as he spun down the trail to my left. I basically just went from a standing to sitting position with no damage done. He looked like his bell was rung a bit though. My immediate reaction was to ask if he didn't see me just standing there. He asked if I was okay. I did the same and that was that. Luckily the kid was 100 lbs. at best. I would have been pissed if I was injured less than a week before my MRV trip.
Met up with Pat shortly after 8 pm and he was pretty disappointed with the bump situation. We lapped Nor'easter anyway. Chris hung with us until about 8:30 and Pat skied for another hour. My final four runs were solo on Gunbarrel which was fun to hit at a good clip on the old sticks, Tom's Treat, and finally two runs on Nor'easter. On my second to last run, I wiped out and slammed hard on a bump. No damage done, but it confirmed I do not like the longer skis in the bumps. After my final run I looked back up Nor'easter and wondered if the bumps would be any good again this season. Kind of running out of time. I doubt they'll reseed them now. Oh well. It was good while it lasted...
About 3/4" of snow on my car when I left tonight. The snow surface was nice all night.
