Date(s) Skied: 2/7/2009 8:30AM-10:15AM

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, CT

Conditions: temps in low teens, partly sunny, busy, machine groomed snow

Trip Report: With a busy weekend ahead, I knew I wouldn't have much opportunity to ski. Headed out to Sundown this morning despite the big race day going on. When I got on the hill at 8:30AM, there was still much untouched corduroy on all that was visible from lift 1. I started the day down Stinger and basically had the trail to myself. Moved on to Nor'Easter, then Canyon, then back to Stinger. The hill got busier as the morning progressed and more racers arrived on the hill. If you could hit an in-between time, it wasn't bad. By rotating, I mostly managed to avoid the speed demons. But once the ski school lessons got on the hill, it became harder to avoid the crowds. Best run of the day was on Stinger; everything came together beautifully. By 10:15AM, I was getting irritated and needed to get going anyway. Packed it up and headed out, glad I was able to get in some runs today. Good luck to those brave souls there during mid-day! Gunny is closed until 3PM.

That's because *I* wrote it. ;)

I generally won't take pics by myself. I guess I could have, but it probably wouldn't have been very interesting.

Since I was skiing solo, I did have a few interesting chairlift rides today (forced pairing up). 2 of the guys were pretty friendly and we chatted about Sundown and skiing in general. The 3rd was apparently in a mood. When he didn't say anything to me for 1/3 of the way up, I turned and tried to make conversation by saying, "It's pretty busy here today." All I received was a curt, "Aye" in return. Yeah, he was a great companion.

Sounds like fun. Miss you guys!!! Exam is on Tuesday. As long as I don't fail and subsequently hurl myself from the closest jagged rock containing cliff, I'll be around a bit more soon.

If Linguistics keeps up like it has been, I may not ski again this season. Ugh. I hate this class. I don't have enough brain power left for it, I think... Good luck with your exam, Marge!!! :D

Not a problem at all. I had commented that I only read Sundown TR's that have a pic or vid...this one was an exception to the rule.

Good luck on the exam! Nice to see you posting a bit more lately.

Hope to see more of you out on the slopes soon, we need someone to help keep Tim in line.
