Tell the skiers! If we get the crowds, the lifts can keep spinning. There's pleanty of snow, which the rain isn't really affecting. We're going to leave the bumps, although I do have to kill the kickers.

we don't want to start the summer work yet, so tell everyone to come out skiing.

Any chance you can leave one of those kickers?

I'm not ready to quit going to Sundown yet either! Spring bumps will be prime, we just need enough people to show up to justify spinning the lifts!

If they do close early, what is the Mtns position on 'earning turns'?

Jarrod - you know I will do anything to encourage you guys to stay open later. You will have snow well into April. I've been in major funk thinking you guys might shut the doors on Easter, or perhaps the following Sunday. Here are some ideas:
  • Use this time as an opportunity to sell 2008-09 passes which could be honored now.
  • Beat out Killington. If they close on 4/13, a little hill in CT may actually draw some of their normal spring visitors.
  • Hold some more events - a BBQ, concerts, anything...
  • Try to sell packs of lift tickets - maybe 3 lift tickets for $75 or something.
  • Rent AlpineZone the mountain for a day or night in April. I'm serious. What dollar figure do you need to make it worthwhile to stay open on any given day/night?
I'll put out press releases, spam the hell out of every other ski forum out there, stand on I-95 with a cardboard sign advertising that Sundown is still open. Whatever it takes. Just please stay open as long as the snow holds out...

Here's another idea. Join forces with some other mountains that are known for staying open later. Offer some sort of multi-mountain spring pass.

gotta toss you...

private property, and now ski patrol = no post season fun

I am working on something for you guys that I think you'll all be happy with.

Details to come.

As far as discounting... I don't like discounting. I feel the sundown "product" is really good and not needing of discount. We've got some ideas that you guys will know about when I;m able to put them out.

Seriously. Maybe there are other ways to drastically streamline operations to cut costs. Skeleton crew, limited base services, night skiing only until 9 pm - or maybe just end day operations at 6 or 7 pm, open at noon, etc.

What about opening EARLIER in the day and offering a 2 hour ticket instead of a 4 hour (not a discounted rate, less skiing for less $$).

As a parent of 2 kids my season is impacted by their schedule. They do more in the spring. If Ski Sundown cranked up the lifts @ 7:00 AM and i could buy a 2 hour ticket i'd likely get in several more trips before calling it quits.

Works for the groomers, but not for the bumps.

Those are all really great ideas Greg!
