Ski tech question

While skiing with a buddy awhile back we realized we have the same size boot. We tried switching skis and it seemed to work fine. I did a couple of runs with no issues.

Assuming the din settings are similar, is this safe? Does a technician set a binding according to the size that's printed on the boot or does he directly match it with the boot in hand and pay no attention to the size printed on it?

They set the binding to the boot sole length, not the boot size. Different boots from different companies can have different Boot Sole Lengths, but the same shoe size.

What Hawkshot said. You can check the bsl, it's usually printed right on the side of the sole. If they are the same you are probably ok. I've done it before with friends, one of those you do at your own risk kinda things. If you know how to check the forward pressure on your bindings, that would be the best way to see if you guys are close enough.

Also, make sure the DINs are at least pretty close to each other. You can have the same sole length, but if one of you is 230lbs and an aggressive, expert, and the other is 150lbs and a solid intermediate, there could be release issues.
