To recover from a broken leg 2002, I bought the Skiers Edge II off EBAY. I paid about 50% less than a new unit and I am extremely happy with it.

I like using it, but I really only use it during the ski season. I use it 3-days a week for 10-15 minutes then jump on my exercise bikes for continued aerobic conditioning. Depending on your self-discipline, the edge is a great tool for skier muscle conditioning, including "edge to edge" technique development. If you train with a pulse monitor, you can adjust the load accordingly with the edge belts as well as your effort to push the travel car against the bands.

In the non-skiing months, I ride bicycles and hike to maintain conditioning and to keep from getting bored of the same old workout. Brand new they run $1,100 to $1,500 plus S & H. If you’re interested, try one out at a gym somewhere. I discovered the benefit & fun of using one at Physical Therapy.

Bottom line for me is that I found nothing else indoors makes my legs (functional technique through muscle memory) ready for skiing turns than a Skiers Edge.

It is fantastic! I got one in October and it has done wonders not only for my conditioning, but since mine has the "Slope Simulator" option I find that it has improved my balance to an incredible degree. If you want more info PM me and I will discuss it with you. Bottom line: I am nearly 59 years old and I ski all day with really good skiers in excellent condition on absolutely any type of terrain without fatigue and no quad burn!

I'm going in for reconstructive knee surgery (ACL) in April :( and thinking of getting one as part of my PT as well as continued conditioning to be ready for next season.

subdude, my wife is also very much into maintaining fitness. Last September she badly sprained her right ankle just walking in a shopping center parking lot(the very one she had broken running about ten years ago). She was very frustrated because, as many of you know, a sprain takes forever to heal, and she was not able to maintain her cardio level because it hurt to use our treadmill. When I got the Edge machine I suggested she try it. I set the tension very light, and positioned the unit perpendicular to the console of the treadmill. This gave her something to hold on to to steady herself on the machine. I just use the ski poles the machine comes with since I didn't buy their "assistant coach" attachment, or sometimes just "ski" without poles. She soon discovered that she was able to get a very good cardio work-out, but even more importantly, the "no impact" motion of the machine helped her break up adhesions in the ankle and accelerated her recovery.

PS: I don't work for this company, but I probably should considering how much value I have found in using it. I do about 2000 "turns" per session (in 200 turn sets) mixed with 100-120 crunches, 120 pushups, and 120 varying reps with weights. When I hit the slopes it is not even a physical challenge to hammer it!

It's the only exercise equipment that I can bring myself to use. I'm not into exercise, so I got a machine that I thought would be somewhat "fun" to use and it is. Gives a good areobic workout, helps with balance, side to side movments and balance. At times while carving Ion the hill I can tell the Edge has improved my skiing. Finding one on Ebay is the ticket as they are expensive. And you really should change the belts at least every two years. I did and it makes a big difference because you don't really notice tem losing their elastictiy. Good machine. . .worth the investment.

Brettski, I have three and they are all great skiers. The "baby is 21 (she and I are heading out to ski Thursday this week) the middle guy is almost 26, and "Jr." is 29. I can outlast them all, since I get much more time to actually ski since I am retired.

Which is why I suggest never buying exercise equipment new. You can always find good deals on them in want ads, ect.

They are a good idea which usually become a clothes hanger or such.

Why pay full price when you can get a real deal on something that usually has less than 3 months use?

I've been seeing this advertised at various places, ie Ski magazines and TV. I'd love to get one. Right now UK and I have a elipse machine that we use for our cardio. That works great when we use it.... :D

Edge Thread

Brettski I started the oldest at 9 the middle guy at 6, and my daughter at age 3. I have been to over 50 mountains over the years, but Smugglers just never seemed convenient to someone living on Long Island; although, I have heard good things about it in respect to families.

If you still have that Skiers Edge could you tell me what model it is and if it has any attachments?
