Nowhere now, but everywhere
A couple summers ago we went kayaking at Croton Point Park on the Hudson River. There were a bunch of jet skiers hanging out in a cove near the launch and one was blasting extremely loud latin pop while another was blasting extremely loud rap. I could barely make by brain work and just had to get away from there.

Apropos of nothing but I hate Arcade Fire. I think they have one beat and it's not a very interesting one.
If i had to ride fresh pow listening to Arcade Fire, I think I would rather go do something else.

And a question for ya: i don't buy concert tix in advance for shows in winter. Weekend shows that could compromise a powder day or two. I’m glad that I did not get the billy gibbons tix as they would have gone unused. How about you?

There are two bands I'll skip a ski day for. One may not ever play again (Ween) and one hasn't played in New England in a decade (Widespread Panic). Actually make that four. I'd see Tool over skiing. And I have close group of friends who are huge into moe., so my wife and I will go out with them if it's local enough.

I will see smaller band shows at the music club in town about once a month, but typically split after the first set to get up early and ski.

Summertime I'll see more music, but that's a lessening priority too as I'd often rather be hanging on my boat.

I was a live music junkie for decades, but having kids and just living a healthier lifestyle has changed that a lot over the past decade. Guess I'm old now.

I saw Warren Haynes two nights ago at my local Theater on the North Shore. Very fun show. Good crowd. Kevin Scott on the bass is a monster. Jams were seemless and very tight. I am still felling a little cloudy from the festivities.

I only buy tickets for shows in the winter on weekdays. There are very few acts I will make exceptions for.

I used to skip skiing for the disco biscuits but no longer. I am not happy with their recent output and I’d rather ski

I got Kendrick MetLife stadium tickets for a Friday in May, and Four Tet (a dj) festival tickets for mid may. I won’t buy anything earlier than may.

A band I want to see called darkside (Dave Harrington and Nico Jaar) play March 21/22. I’ll go if it rains

The biscuits play Long Island tomorrow and Saturday. I get home from Canada tomorrow at 1:30 pm. Not going to either biscuit show.

One of the reasons they annoy me is over the past five years they keep playing suburban venues and not the city. I’m sick of schleping to Montclair, wantagh, port Chester, red bank, and this time Huntington. Having to either drive, or take a very expensive Uber, or take a commuter rail, or get a hotel, all takes the fun out of it for me. I want to get ripping drunk, take acid, and stumble home to my home for under $30 cost

We live a mile from the Capitol Theatre and we only buy tix in advance for big shows that we really want to see and that will sell out quickly. Mostly we wait until afternoon of the show and pick up tix on Stubhub. If the weather is bad tix become plentiful and much less $. We saw a sold out Bob Weir and the Wolf Pack last year for $100 for 2 seats.

We almost postponed out planned week in Tremblant for a week to see the Phil Lesh tribute show with the Q coming up on the 17th of March. We tend to go to shows there a couple times a month and we'll go to a few festivals over the summer.

This year we're going to the Crawfish fest in NJ and the Telluride Bluegrass fest and maybe another bluegrass fest in Annapolis, the Baygrass fest in September. Went last year because they had a fantastic lineup.

The dead represent a counterculture. Skiing is a counterculture. We are not mainstream sports fans. We are individualists who come together as a tribe of independent people doing our things in a community.

I agree - skiing and Dead go together. I see more and more Dead skull and lightning bolt hats and stickers with a mountain's logo where the lightning bolt goes.

I get what u're saying and was true for so long but since sexy Jerry basically took the lead of the Dead orbit - we're no longer counter culture.

Up until thn yea, skiing in many forms is an adventure - getting in your car and driving X number of miles/hours to the mountain and even exploring mountains/trails both new and old. You can replace "deadheads" with skiers and this quote from Garcia would still make sense to most of us

The deadheads have a sort of a sense of adventure and it's tough to come by adventure in America nowadays, know what I mean? It's a little uptight and everything like that. They are people who are strong enough to seek adventure in this new lame America.

Yup, I saw the Dead 8 times, the Jerry Garcia Band once and Bobby and the Midnights twice. They were great shows. But that was so 50 fucking years ago! Music has evolved and I do not understand how so many people can listen to the same shit all the time. I still enjoy the occasional song when I hear it but this is like listening to the music your parents listened to. I know Kusty (and others on this forum) do see a lot of new music, but most people in the MRV have not expanded their minds with new music, they shut it out and they are stuck in a fucking musical rut. I've had many conversations with many people over my 20 years there. If you love music, you keep exploring and discovering... With that said, I still think one of the best records ever is "A Space in Time" by Ten Years After. However, I am so looking forward to the new Viagra Boys album and so much other new music coming out this spring. I'm so into the Outlaw Country thing now... Music is so personal and if you want people to listen to your musical tastes, become a dj on a radio station, don't blare it in the parking lot or carry a speaker around. I'm just a balding old gray man on a tray.

JGB doing Motown was the best. By '93 I was seeing JGB whenever I could and their playing was a lot better thn the Dead at that point. Saw them at the Warfield in 94 and wow - what an experience considering I started seeing the Dead in '88 so arenas and stadiums only - even JGB east coast tours were arenas. Warfield was such a small intimate setting .... still my favorite concert experience of all time and doubt anything will top it.

Panic just played AC a few weekends ago but I skipped to ski. They rarely do the NE anymore and NC seems to be the most north they come. WP treats the NE like Phish treats Florida - decent fanbases but they always get passed over for tours

Free stream Friday night - great lineup for the show honoring Dickey including Warren

Also - two shows @ MSG in April with similar lineup. Plan on going one night and would love to see a tour of sheds over the summer but don't think that's happening

I was so bummed when Jimmy got sick and the Boston shows were cancelled last summer. Really hope they schedule something again soon. From like 2008-2014 they played Boston once a year and I never missed it.

Glad Jimmy is back

I plan to go to one of the brothers shows. But I will wait til I can see the whites of their eyes for ticket purchasing. I expect very cheap last minute action and/or very loosey guess listing via some connected friends

Yea - Jimmy got on my radar back in the late 90's with Jazz is Dead. Took my ex wife to the bottom line as a date and he blew me away. Wasn't long after he started collaborating with Bobby and Phil and saw tons of shows with him over the years. Ahhh - to be young, no kids and head to shows all over the East and Mid Atlantic on weekends during the summer

They played right before Covid lockdowns back in '20 and tix were $20 day of as my friends went. I didn't go but have seen vids on YouTube and the show was fire. No tix for me either - never buy until a few days prior or day of for the past 10 years as tech makes that too easy and I can't stand dealing with Ticketmaster. Hotels for destinations always booked prior. Plan on hitting the Mann (live in Bucks county so home) and SPAC for Phish this summer. Have had hotel reservations since Jan when the rumor of dates were swirling around. I start hunting tix abt a week b4 and go from there. Lots of times I buy while tailgating day of

At MSG? Some friends got tix and we may go but it will be more last minute. If we go we'll likely get a hotel room. in the city.

We are similar with Dead and Co at Sphere. We have refundable hotel reservations and will wait to see if tickets come down. Last year they dropped by at least 50%. I think Dead Heads with disposable income buy a bunch of seats and then have to get rid of weekends they can't make it. I know a guy who went to every show last year.
