the brothers at msg tonight. i think its allman brothers 55? bc they did this a few years ago for allmans 50.

kinda weird that they are at msg for two nights. there are oodles of unsold tix. i am planning to show up with a $20 bill pretty much.

its warren haynes, derek trucks, oteil burbridge, and joe russo as the core. i think jaimoe is with them. should be fun and easy.

I was thinking about this thread yesterday while we were having mid morning refreshments (had ski to car parking, yea!)... dude pulls up across from us and is getting ready to hit the slopes while blasting his stereo from his truck. Some really nice doom / death metal music. Possibly my least favorite musical genre, but what can you do but listen!

Death metal is not my preferred genre, but I have a cool story to tell about it.

My nephew is a guitarist. Since his early teens, death metal has been his favorite genre and Atheist, his favorite band. Well throughout highschool he learned their entire catalog front to back and would post videos of himself playing their songs on YouTube for his friends to check out.

In 2023, the band's founder and lead singer , Kelly Shaefer, decided he wanted to put the band back together, but he needed to hire some new musicians as most of the original members either left or died already. Kelly's manager saw my nephew on YouTube and Kelly reached out to him via Facebook to ask if he'd like to audition. Jerry has now been their lead guitarist for the past two years and has done two North American tours, Europe twice, South America and they're heading to Australia and Japan in June.

Death metal isn't that popular here and even though Atheist is a major act in Death Metal, they mainly play just clubs in the US. But in Europe and South America, Jerry has played for festival crowds in the tens of thousands. He has fans waiting for him when he gets off the plane wanting his autograph.

Pretty wild how he went from an early 20s kid working at Newberry comics uploading guitar videos on YouTube to now being the lead guitarist in his favorite band of all time. The equivalent would have been Bob Weir seeing me play guitar on YouTube and asking me to audition for the Other Ones back in the 90s.

We just bought tix for The Brothers at MSG for tomorrow! I hate sitting way in the back at the Garden so we spent a bit over $300 for 2 tix in section 107. I think the price is trending up a bit.

It never got super cheap. I was surprised. We paid $75 for the cheapest face tickets, then pulled up the Ticketmaster site and located a full row of unsold seats in the 100s, walked into the section with full hands of beer and acted like we knew where we were going, and no one stopped us. Enjoyed $165 face tix for $75.

GREAT show. Basically the entire allmans songbook of significance except for Melissa and rambling man. I assume tonite is the same group of songs with a few substitutions including Melissa and rambling man

Joe Russo always elevates the players around him

Chuck Leavell sounded great

So what is the story with the Brothers and future shows. Was MSG just a one off thing?
IDK, but they were so good I think they should and probably will continue. They were smiling all night, having a great time.

I wonder if Oteil jumped on a plane to Vegas late last night or first thing this morning?

they played right before covid for allman brothers 50, then these shows for 55.

from what i can gather both nights have been very well received, and i hope they do more.

they also did an admirable job of filling msg on tuesday, but it really came down to the wire. tons of tickets remained unsold on TM and stubhub til the last hour. everyone was waiting for a price drop.

only six repeats on night two. after the onslaught of heavy hitters tuesday i assumed weds would be more repeat-y. both shows look good but i prefer tuesday. if i went wednesday and did not get liz reed or mountain jam, id have left a little salted.

They teased Mountain Jam for a minute last night during one of the jams. I did not miss Liz Reed because there were a bunch of similar 2 chord jams and , for me, the jam in Liz Reed is the fun part. They also jammed a bit of John Coltrane's Favorite Things. Lots of jamming. I loved it!

oteil and russo started full on playing the heavy drum and bass of the other one during mountain jam on tuesday. it was so sick lol
