I was like 7 months old. I think my parents dragged me around the yard on a sled, does that count?

that was the best snow storm ever. The only bad part was eating the stuff in the back of the cabinets.

Never fails every winter I hear the "story of the '78 storm" my father-in-law tells about how he got stuck in Vermont and couldn't get back to Boston. Only thing was he was just learning how to ski at the time so his powder skillz were not quite up to today's abilities. I myself was still in the womb......

Living in farm country, we got daily visits from snowmobilers checking on our well-being since our roads were blocked by 6-foot drifts for three days. Most machines had been requested for emergency duty. One fella said "I think I ran over a car".

I was going stir crazy, so I walked into town, a 2 1/2 mile affair with winds blowing. Sure enough, at the bottom of the hill was a cluster of 10 abandoned cars on what had been the road. And sure enough snow mobile tracks over the roof of one.

I was almost eight years old and at my families small ski cabin near egermont, MA during the blizzard. I remember skiing in it at Butternut. I remember we had to stay there for two or three exta days before we could return to LI as the roads were closed. Recently, I came across some pictures of snow that was up to my neck when we opened the garage door and started shoveling out the driveway

I was 17 and in school near Albany. Barely any snow there, yet it took my 48 hours to get home for vacation. Because of previous plans, we drove up to Stowe for a couple of days. We should have stayed further South. It kinda sucked

I was 18 and had a car...Once the snow finally stopped, my brother and I were able to dig out and took off out of Boston and were able to get to the highway, which was wide open and plowed. No checkpoints or anything...We made it up to North Conway, and had three amazing days at Cranmore and Wildcat. Nobody else was there except for a few locals. It was as though we owned the mountains. Everyone else stayed home. I never met anyone else in greater Boston who was able to get away that week, since all the news reports were saying that the highways were closed. We just drove up like we owned it...and it turned out we pretty much did.

I was 6 at the time, and in the fall of '77 my family had moved to Westport, Ct from the Syracuse area, and some of the folks that lived near our house per my Dad's reccolection, were laughing when our snowblower was brought off the moving van in '77. Well, during the blizzard, it was that snowblower, combined with the small plow for the lawn tractor of our neighbor who lived across the street(the fire chief of Westport at that time) that got our road cleared out long before the plows got their!

we had gone to mt snow. stayed right at the base. remember the car being buried. at that time i had been skiing for only a few years and i remember being frustrating because i knew that i was supposed to like powdah but didn't really have a clue what to do with it. spent a lot of time getting myself buried and digging myself out. after 2 or 3 days i had to leave cause i had a gig with my band back home. my friends stayed and skied stratton & bromley.

Unfortunately, I didn't start skiing till 1980. It wouldn't have mattered anyways, we weren't going anywhere. 25"+ and the plow got stuck for 2 days only 100 yds. from our house. Could barely walk across the street much less drive a car. I decided in a fit of business savvy to shovel out a neighbor up the street for some much needed dough. 4 hours and about 10 lbs. of weight loss later he threw me $5. If I only had a shotgun. Needless to say that was the end of my snow shoveling days.

sounds like typical day-in-the-life north country living - it's snow, so deal with it (and so equipped) versus the flatlander panic and volume syndrome. I will keep this in mind next time.....

I'm surprised though - you didn't have high winds in NC?

Anyone ski during or immediately after the Blizzard of 78? I was stranded on a farm.... I suspect the high winds made lift-assist impossible, perhaps even damaged lifts?
Would like to hear a story or three...

Jeez. I was going to the University of Vermont at the time. The next morning, the roads were plowed and it was a very nice powder day at Stowe. You had to ride the single chair because of the wind but that happened all the time. I remember seeing the news that Boston was paralyzed and kind of rolled my eyes. In Vermont, it was just another snow storm.
