man, sorry to hear about that. i also ski the z9's. i am super paranoid about people stealing them, so i always put them somewhere where i can see them when i go inside. i should get a lock, cuz it is annoying to always be looking outside every few seconds. hopefully it's a mix up. those are a really nice ski. problem is others know that too.

We always mismatch are skis, or single them out....don't see many people do that though

Don't think any theif would want to walk arounf with a single ski hunting for it's twin...still I try to do a good job of hiding the second ski...rarely see another pair of rockets on the mountain

Wonder how many skis were stolen from Hunter on Saturday....

that's terrible that you got your skis stolen. hope you find them. my sister had her rental skis taken after lunch at Mt Snow once. ruined the rest of her day. by the end of the day, we noticed an identical pair of skis from the same store in the same area. sure enough, they were grabbed by mistake and bringing that pair to the rental shop cleared up the issue.

so now for lunch, I avoid the base area and try to eat at a midmountain lodge or higher.

if I am stopping at the bar after skiing, I often go outside to check on my skis in the rack. sucks that this is the world we live in.....

I'm hoping to get my skis back... but I guess now I've learned my lesson about locks and splitting them up... the hard way :(

There gone. They took you wife and kids skis as well correct? File a homeowner claim and move on. Every one has there next pair of skis in there head now is your opportunity to go get them. Renting only adds to the overall price so pull the trigger and go gets some new boards

That sucks...

Here's a story for anyone else that might find themselves in a similar situation as above (and a situation I was recently in):

I got my board ripped off at Stowe a couple of weeks ago... I went in to meet my wife and friends, thinking it would be in-and-out... but a beer later, I go out to grab the board and its gone. I am shattered... I pop over to guest services to report it, they call the Stowe police and a cool detective starts taking my info then blurts out: hey are the buses still in the parking lot? I glance over and say YES! (I immediately knew what he was thinking) and he replied "do me a favor, go out to the buses and check the bays for your board. Well to make a long story short, I checked the first bay of the first bus and boo-yah there it was. Some punk from VA on a high school ski trip ripped it off and threw it in there.

Man did I feel good getting it back. And I just had one helluva a powder weekend on it too!

So, if you get your gear stolen at the end of the day like I did: check the buses !!!

this is an excellent post and real good advice for everybody.

I don't think those people took your skis by accident...it's obvious to me that your skis want to go skiing in the Catskills, probably at Hunter. So, they called out to the poor people who took them so they could ride to Kingston and be near their favorite ski areas.

Your skis have probably sweet talked the shop they were returned to into a free tune up, so they'll be ready to slide when you get there. So, don't disappoint your skis!

Seriously, glad you got your stuff back.

Lol, Jim, you're a riot...

But you do bring up a good point - should I take advantage of being up there and play hooky tomorrow at Hunter? hmmm... deep thoughts ;)

cbcbd, glad to hear there's a happy ending to this story. You should change the icon on this thread to a smiley face instead of a frown.

I'm a Z9 skier too and I was at the Bush last Sunday. For a while there, I was wondering if I took the wrong skis! Anyway, I always put a lock on my skis (got them for $10 and they've stopped retracting a long time ago). It's a bother sometimes putting them on and taking them off but it's well worth it. Good to have some peace of mind while I'm in the lodge. I also put some personalized stickers on them just so that if someone accidentally gets my skis (lots of Z9's out there), we can sort out which is which.

Update:

Picked my skis up yesterday at Potter Brothers and yeah, made up some lame excuse, took the day off the day job and headed up to Hunter and skied for free (I get free weekdays there through my other job).

Gorgeous day, soft conditions, great soft bumps (West side got icy fast so didn't get to enjoy it too much).

This was just a sign that I had to ski yesterday and I thankfully listened to that higher calling :D

Now I have a lot of catchup to do at work!

yeah, what did you do with the rental skis that were left behind? were you able to return them to the rightful ski shop?

also, did you get your poles back too? or were they not missing.
