I write my name in Perm Marker on the ski between the bindings...just in case someone picks up the same looking ski, they'll see the markings and know its not theirs....I should still get a lock though.....

I am surprised the person who mistakenly took your skis didn;t notice that the poles were probably different. or maybe they didn;t care. or maybe they had someone else lug them for them. normally rental skis are marked up with the shop's info.

my skis are so well skied on that if anyone really wants to take them, i would not be pleased but there are other things in life to worry about.

glad to hear that the guy affected by this had a positive outcome. and got a free day on the slopes.

yeah, what did you do with the rental skis that were left behind? were you able to return them to the rightful ski shop?

also, did you get your poles back too? or were they not missing.
Yep, returned to them - I was surprised when they just didn't get the people's phone # and call them about my skis on Monday. I also got my poles back. :)

But yeah... my poles were 3 section carbon fiber trekking poles and their's was a one piece composite. The rental ski also had two big rental stickers from the place in front of the binding - so even if I had any markings on my skis they probably would've not seen them until it was too late.

Locking or splitting seems like the way to go.

yeah, kind of weird that they would have not noticed your poles. could you dismantle the poles and take them into the lodge?

the thing that;s a real heart breaker is when you hear the stories of somebody;s brand new skis or snowboard getting lifted, especially if it;s their first and didn;t get a chance to enjoy them much. probably bought as a birthday gift or from proceeds from an after school job.

now I am all for taking care of your equipment and trying to keep them in pristine shape but they are meant to be used so use them!

as for me, i am going the cheap route nowadays. skis for no more than 200$ if I can get them on end of season sales. transfer my old binding to the new skis until they fall off the indemnify list. ski on them for atleast 100 days and they're basically paid off.
