Slides at whiteface opened today for shovels beacons and probes. It was sick. I skied slides 1-4 in knee deep pow pow all afternoon

Amazing..conditions there..are better than here in Montana...well glad the east got some...

Are avalanche shovels and beacons truly necessary (I see Whiteface requires them) for the Slides? I havent been blessed to ski them, but have as others drooled over the Youtube's, and it sure doesnt seem necessary from the clips I've seen.

Yes. Avi courses are held there usually. You may not get truly buried but will get swept down into trees which will mess you up, if not kill you.

Ah but in that case, becon and probe won't do much good. You don't even need them for finding the body. ;)
