I disagree with the Bonnie at Jay. For a FGQ, that lift isn't terribly slow for what it is, especially relative to other FGQ's. It just feels slow when the wind hits you just so. :)

Becker chair at Snowbasin. Perhaps they've changed it out since I was there, but very slow and very long! Great mountain though....

The North Quad at Gore serves some great blue and green cruisers, usually has great snow as it faces north, is out of the wind and never has a line. The slow chair drives everybody away. The loading area can be difficult which may contribute to how slow the chair runs.

The old Monadnock Triple at Wachusett was terrible... 10 minutes for a 1,500 foot beginner lift. People think it's overkill that they put in a HSQ for that area now but it's so much better for beginners.

For full-length summit chairs, gotta give the nod to the Red Chair at Magic since it hasn't been mentioned yet (that I can see). Especially the day I was there when there were 15 people on the whole mountain so I couldn't enjoy watching people tumble down Redline. The skiing was really good that day and that made me extra impatient.

I've seen a mention of the Madonna summit chair at Smuggs, and I'll agree for the first 7 minutes of the ride but the rest of it is so insanely steep and cliffy that it makes it feel so much faster. I think the whole ride pushes 20 minutes but the entire top half is nuts.

The Hornet at Tenney and Spear Triple at Ragged without question.

Deadliest chair was the "high speed double" at Berkshire East they took out a few years ago.

Third on the West Mountain Double, and on the old Peabody double. Though the slowest-feeling main-mountain lift I've been on was probably the old main chair at Pleasant Mountain (now Shawnee Peak).

I miss that double. I was getting on it with some guy about 5 years ago and he wiped me out trying to get on because the chair swung out so far when it went around the bullwheel. I hit the deck and the thing missed my head by inches. 2knees can attest.

*Berkshire East highspeed double that is.

Actually--this may be kinda off topic, but a question: Does anyone know how long (lift time--not the length) the new Mittersill double chair at cannon is?

Is it faster than older double chairs? It looks like it would be a really long ride since it goes higher than the peabody express--and that lift is pretty substantial compared to the Cannonball chair or the Zoomer chair.

I was not able to ride it  But hopefully with all the snow we are going to have (fingers crossed) it will be open when I go there this year!

Gonna add the brand new, not even 6 month old zendo chair at breck. If you visit breck and want to go to peak 6, take the wanderlust trail to avoid this lift.

Even though its officially 7 minutes long, it's always run at half speed, the kensho lift, which it serves, is at least 5 times as long but only a 6 minute ride

Any mod: Can I change the spelling of the thread to "chairlift?"

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
The summit double at Thunder Ridge/Big Birch. Wow. Just...wow.

Honorable mention goes to the Summit Cripple that was at Mount Snow. It was fast, but took 20 minutes and the last few hundred feet was cold. Very, very cold. Didn't help that you got to watch people on the Grand Summit whizzing by you :-?

The double and triple both suck at Attitash. Double is definitely slower though.

Wonder if the Triple is a potential site for a conveyor loading ala Skyline at Sugarloaf. I've heard over and over from management in AZ challenges (and to a lesser extent Attitash regulars on the forums) why they won't replace the Summit lift with a HSQ, but maybe adding a conveyor and bumping the lift speed to reduce the ride time a few minutes might be a good compromise?

I am surprised that a lot of places that are on a limited budget don't consider this option. Some options that come to mind would be Jay (for the Bonnie), Saddleback, Bolton, maybe Cannon, etc.

And getting back to the topic at hand, you can see where ASC ran out of money with Canyons: looker's right is all HS lifts. But Peak 5, Dreamscape, Dreamcatcher, and Daybreak are all slow fixed grip lifts. This came as a surprise to me.

Smuggs.....

though there doubles do at least seem to run at a decent line speed

I was going to say Smuggs, but honestly their issue is not just speed it is age. They will have to eventually replace those lifts and I imagine that they will go the HSQ route. I was thinking of areas with existing fixed grip quads and triples that could be retrofitted. Another one might be some of Killington's lifts.
