Am I just unlucky or has anyone else seen this a lot lately? Skiing down the trail, I see a snowboarder getting ready to go. I already know that they are not going to look up the hill,(any more than any skier would for that matter). They just get up and go. But what really astounds me is that they will be on the right side of the trail and start off facing the right side of the trail, looking at the woods. Then they'll just drift into the trail, completely blind.
To be fair, this isn't all of them, but it is a goodly number of them that are doing this. I am sure they live by the mantra that the downhill person has the right of way (Completely ignoring the 4th rule that they should look uphill when starting out), but sheesh, don't you think they would have a little concern for their own life and limb?
I always give a wide berth, because it really doesn't matter who is right or wrong when bones start breaking, ending ski seasons early, so it was never close, but I always watch out to see if they are watching out, and quite plainly, they are not. I see this with skiers also, they just start out without looking, but at least they are able to see beside them and in front of them, and they won't just drift blindly into someone.
Meh, it's the sitting on the ground in the middle of the trail that bothers me.
Especially when it's underneath a rise (which never ceases to absolutely BLOW my mind how anyone could be SO stupid).
Sometimes some things just need to be said.
