Had a real nice solo ride today up in the forbidden forest. Got rolling a little before noon and ended up spending the better part of the afternoon out in the woods enjoying the wonderful winter weather. I rode the following loop:
Jug>Hinman>Ye Ole 69'er>FKC>Miller Road>Tree Stand Trail*>Surveyors Trail>Kitchen Bypass>Stony Hill Road Bypass*>High Road>Baba's Bypass>Reservoir Road>B-Street>4-way>E. Chippens>WC Bypass>Scoville Twisties and Scoville Road back to the car.
The full loop came in at 10.51 miles with 1700 feet of climbing and was completed in roughly 2 hours 10 minutes. Didn't really ride fast today basically just kept a nice even pace and took minimal breaks along the way. Seeing as this was the first time riding solo since the leaves came down I actually took some time to do some exploring off the beaten path (bushwacking) and was rewarded with some new to me scenery and possibly some new nifty ways to get around the forest. ;-)
The snow had just begun to fall when I started my ride and was light enough not to hinder the riding experience. It wasn't sticking on the ground at first but as the miles rolled on it started to lightly coat the ground especially up on the top of the ridge. Regardless, although I'm no stranger to being out in the woods in a snow storm it's usually on a pair of skis and not riding a mountain bike so todays experience was my first of this kind and surreal is so many ways.
Anyway after finishing up my ride I grabbed a quick bite to eat and being excited by the falling snow headed immediately back into the woods for some further hiking exploration, adventure and a tab bit of TM to boot. In summary just another amazing day spent out in the woods.
Here's a few pictures......
Enjoy!
