And before they left, they gave me an itinerary of the hotels they would be at. Just for grins, I looked up what it would cost me to call them - it turns out that with my internet phone it's a mere 4¢ a minute. Hell, at that price I can talk to them all day. So I just gave them a call out of the blue. They totally didn't expect it, and it surprised the hell out of them. Sweet.

When the west coast rises I'll call them back and 3-way my brother and sister (they're in California) to them so they can chat. This phone isn't perfect, but the benefits are unbelievable.

If you had lingo you could call western Europe for free! The majority of my wife's family lives in Norway and we've saved a ton of money on phone calls with lingo. What's their itinerary like? I've been to Italy a few times. Venice will always be my favorite.

Southern Italy. My family is from Calabria, and their itineray is taking them to Naples and Sicily. On their free day (they're on a guided bus tour) they're going to try to hit the tiny town that my father's family is from - Scala Coeli in Cosenza.

Venice was cool, but Florence was my favorite.
