yesterday at cannon was about the same as last week. it was just starting to lightly snow when i left and i didn't hit rain till plymouth, but i don't think cannon will get more than a few inches of snow with rain mixed in. good for building a base, not good for opening more terrain without snow making. i think jay is gonna get nailed though from all indications...

got wrecked. The base was added to, 3 inches of heavy snow followed by a thick crust. Good base down, but no off piste skiing until we get some snow.

Thanks

I'm thinking seriously about driving to Denver and skiing the front range this year. However, I wonder if they are doing as well as the far west.

I skiied Sunday River Sat morning, and they seem to get about 4 inches and then mixed precip. They groomed at the right time. It was soft wet packed powder( hero snow) the skiing was the best so far this year for me. The mist and Fog seemed to keep some people away . You really could not see all that well, but I had a blast.

Conditions

Cannon has put up on their website 2" fresh snow over the past 48 hrs. If it was foggy, that would indicate that the snow was melting faster than if it was raining. Not that rain can destroy a good base, mind you. Visibility issues with fog I find technically interesting. If you have the option, your choice of eyewhere may be a factor. I have lenses I'ld like to compare depending on the amount of sunshine that filters through and the temps.

Skied Waterville Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday had a few inches of fresh snow, heavy, thigh-busting stuff. Great cover and, of course, no-one there because of the rain in Boston Saturday night.
Snow guns were back on Sunday, they should open a bunch more trails in the next few days. 8)

Where to go?

Watching the Weather Channel yesterday, I saw a lot of snow in Western N.Y. State. They were calling the area below Buffalo and on the N.E. shore of Lake Erie, SKI COUNTRY! There's a ton of cover there now. I've never been there, but I have known excellent skiers who grew up there. There's a few small downhill areas and lots of cross/back country.

Okemo was absolutely beautiful yesterday. Packed powder with a couple inches of fresh on top. Some upper mountain trails had some hardpack as well. Some lower mountain trails were spring sugar. There was some soft granular around as well.
