I would love to see the Chondola used to the North peak and ski down to spruce and use that lift for eary season. Cheapeer to just use 1 lift though. There is a Oct 31 moonlight night event at the North peak at Sunday River how kewl would it be to make turns during the day and hang outside on the np deck at night. I plan on making both events.

too much sun on risky and the lower part of Amex... I'm partial to Barker anyway...its the clubhouse.

I'm gonna put my money on Mt. Snow. Killington has been leaving chips on the table for a few years now. If they let Sundown steal the biggest mogul party title away, anything could be possible.

Mount Snow only beat Killington in 2007 because Killington decided to stick to their proposed opening day which was a week later. They had more than enough snow to open first, but decided not to open.

If, like last year, Killington is competent to open ASAP, there's no reason they won't beat Mt. Snow.

It just depends on the weather..some years there is a marginal cold spell and southern spots like Mount Snow can't blow enough snow and Killington is like Whoop Whoop and steals the show. Others it's warm everywhere till Thanksgiving and then a arctic front blasts through and resorts from the mid atlantic to New England all crank up the guns at the same time..and seasons like that, Big Boulder can open the same day as Mount Snow. When I was in college...Sugarbush was open for several days in October of 1997 with downloading on the Sugar Bravo with Jester to Downspout open and I think Upper Organgrinder. Killington was also open as well but everything melted away and areas re-opened in mid November. I skied Stowe on natural snow on Halloween..

October 31 falls on a Saturday this year. I think the River should be open by then. Note to self: get a costume for Halloween skiing.
Barely more than two months away!

2005 and 2006 were both big time early snow years with great October skiing. We got nothing in 2007 and 2008. Here is to seeing what 2009 will bring us for October skiing! We are definitely due. Though I think it would have to be significant early natural snow fall for an area to open in October or extremely unseasonably cold snowmaking temps the last week in October. Here's hoping!!!

We'll be ready to go. Just need cold temps in October.

call me a schill, but Tom and hopefully killington seem more tuned in to what people are asking for this off-season then any other resort i can think of.

The MarComm guy isn't exactly announcing the end of world hunger when he posts that Killington is going to start making snow when it gets cold. He's doing his job promoting his business.

^ Just goes to show that SR's commitment to early opening resonates with the public. Ever since the Boyne folks took over, they've gone all out to blow snow as soon as conditions allow. Thumbs up for that!

Terry and rivercoil, see you on October 30!
