Stump had some good picks. Not a big fan of electronic stuff, but I picked up Adamski's Thing due to a couple of the songs included in Fistful of Moguls. All ski videos should use the music from the Blizzard of Aaahhs. I have the "Act" album used on that movie in my iTunes library.
I tend to like WM's music choices overall. They tend to match the music to the skiing pretty wellThis thread is awesome.
I lean toward the hard rock side of music while I watch my ski porn. I still haven't found a film that really nails it musically. The opening scene from TGR's Anomaly is pretty great. Warren Millers stuff is pretty strange sometimes. MHF always throws in some random crap that almost detracts from the movie. (see example, Born from Ice) I need to watch that on mute.
For me:
Chevelle's Clincher:

Trapt's Stand Up:

But then...for when I want something a little more chill like a big mountain scene:
Soulive's Liquid:

For example:
(love how that's the official music video.)
Also, Knights of Cydonia (Muse) I always thought sounded like a song that should be in music credits. Then I realized it was used in the close of Playground.
But I think Marc hit the reason the lower budget movies use less well-known musicians.
