The vast majority of clothing that Spyder sells nowadays, especially through large chains, most definately ISN'T of the same levels of fabric quality/innovations that years ago got Spyder the reputation of being a cutting edge technical clothing company. Nowadays with Spyder gear, unless its from their World Cup line or from essentially the Tommy Moe inspired free skiing line, the features/wind+water resistance, Spyder gear is on par with Columbia, *most* mass marketed Northface, etc, etc, etc. Good stuff, but it does have some limitations and those limitations are the types of things that typically show up when your out in the tougher weather conditions

+1 on what drjeff found. After my first experience with Spyder products years ago, I stuck with them when it was replacement time. After less than one season, I had lots of stitching coming lose and various parts of the jacket, pants, and gloves coming off after normal use. Quality Control needs to step it up or Spyder needs better parts and/or labor before I would consider them again. Your mileage may vary.

FWIW... my main jacket zipper has been extremely difficult to work with and the rubber dongle thingy on the zipper ripped off today. My jacket is heading for the scrap heap sooner than expected. Four years (after falling apart since day two, literally) is too short a life span for a jacket in this price range. Though I am fairly certain folks will no longer be able to recognize me with a different jacket, LOL. Any ways, I will fully admit that my biased opinion, though based on actual experience, is not the be all and end all of opinion. I thought of this thread instantly today when that zipper thingy broke, though.
