Powder/ Three feet on the upper mountain

Traveled up from Reno last night. Had to go around the lake, 80 was closed. Got here at one in the morning

Went up first Ghondola at nine oclock. They say the lines start an hour before the lifts start spinning on a powder day, its more like 1.5 hours.

Tons oh powder with 45 degree pitches all over the place. Squaw Valley the real deal. Going over by Granite around 9:30 the bomps were popping every 1/2 hour. Never did get the granite chair open today.

K-22 the best chair? Strong may be I will know better by then end of the week.

Beer ohclock out here
Have fun

Day II

Packed powder/mushy deep

45 dergrees sunny

Starting to dig deeper in the hill. Skied the granite chair a couple of times. Steep off piste stuff. Did not go to the craziest stuff over there that is gonna take some boot packing. Did boot pack to the palisade shoots. 10 minute walk to Holy piss your pants stuff. Was planning going down the main shoot but chickened out. I went downthe kids campus shoot two skier rt from it. No fall zone for sure.

Finsished the day off with a couple on the k-22 chair. Everything is STEEP and bumpy.

Going back over to the granite area tomorrow we will see what happens.

Day III

Packer Powder/mush
50 and sunny snow is going fast. I think the base is down to 140 inches.

Day III I speant the day on the silverado, Broken arrow and the Granite lift. IMO the best areas on the hill. Silverado is a cliff band ridge that gives you butterflies just looking at it. You definately dont ski it if you cant see the bottom. Broken arrow brings you up in the opposite direction of all the other lifts so you can get the ridge that the tram goes up and over. I nicknamed it spankies ladder. This whole moutain is just sick. There is not a chair here that you cant get yourself into a whole lot of trouble quick. Last run I boot packed up the granite face. Much longer than the palisades pack. I dont know whether I am getting used to the pitch but the palisades shoots seemed tougher and scarier.

Looks like I might make it over to there. Convinced the wife that skiing Heavenly for 4 days was not the way to go. Kirkwood Sunday, maybe Squaw Monday then Heavenly. Only prob I have with Squaw is that you never know where you're going to end up. Hardest place I ever went to. Vis was so bad the last time that I didn't dare go up K-22.
Hope there is some snow left when I get there........only 140 inches!!!!!

The End

Taking off after five days of skiing. Squaw valley is a radical mountain.
Stayed at the squaw valley lodge. 70 feet from the k-22 lift. perfect place

Would I come back? Probably but I have a lot of other hills that need exploring first.

The terrain. Very steep with little in the line of trees . Lots of cliff bands and chutes. bumps are everywhere

Next stop Whiteface mountain will be glad to get home.

Peace out

too bad the good snow couldn't have stuck around a few more days... squaw on sunday was horrible... just a few groomers were ski-able as everything else was titanium... we eventually found a patch of fluffy bumps underneath the KT but it was only about 30 bumps long... amazing terrain... such torture to look out over it all and know that it's a huge chunk of ice... will have to come back on a powder day...

Just got back. Skied Heavenly for 2 days, Squaw for one. Squaw was a frozen wasteland, but the super steep groomers where fun. Have to get back there sometime either in spring or a good winter week. Place is sick!!!
