SRAM XX1 GXP Crankarms Q-Factor 156
When we first introduced SRAM's new XX1 group set to the site, we were blown away by the demand for its blend of rugged sensibility and diverse functionality. We understand the support, especially considering that the aforementioned is paired with an 11-speed setup. However, after compiling feedback, we did notice that XX1 would benefit from a more customizable configuration. XX1's functionality, Q-factor, and compatibility make it the standout component in the new SRAM arsenal. To achieve this, carbon arms have been mated to a redesigned aluminum spider. As a result, the crankarm is lightweight, but doesn't require any finessing of parts in order to make an optimal single-ring setup. In fact, the required X-SYNC chainring has been designed for maximum chain control, with each tooth being CNC-machined to support the chain's inner- and outer-links.
This machining process results in a variable thickness from tooth to tooth, so the chain and chainring essentially lock together as you pedal. However, the locking of the two doesn't inhibit pedal efficiency. And, even better, it eliminates the common ailments associated with running a single ring up front. Essentially, this creates a liberation from chain guides in order to keep the chain in place on rugged, chain-slapping trails.
SRAM even went as far as to say that you have a better chance of dropping your chain with a front derailleur than you do with the XX1 crank and chain combo. The new chainring's 76mm bolt circle diameter sets it apart from others in the SRAM catalog. This diameter evolved from a functionality standpoint, not as an afterthought of the new, universal spider shape.
Its design makes it simple to remove the chainring for maintenance or ratio changes. Gone are the days of finagling the chainring off the spider. Now, all you need to do is unscrew the bolts and move the chainring off, and you'll have the replacement on in minutes. Even better, SRAM has created six different chainring sizes that are compatible with the new XX1 spider; it's for this very reason that we're providing these crankarms without a forced chainring configuration. This means that you're able to dial in your range in order to match the trail, either beforehand or on-the-fly.
And although the XX1 crankarm is designed to work in tandem with the XX1 group set, you are able to use the crank with a 10-speed chain should you want to enjoy the benefits of running a single-speed or one-by-10 setup.
The SRAM XX1 GXP Crankarms - Q-Factor 156 has a 156mm Q-factor and is available in either a 170 or 175mm crankarm length. Please note that these crankarms are only compatible with SRAM GXP bottom brackets, and that they do not include chainrings.
