Hey All,

I'm back from a fun long weekend at Stowe with some PASRs. This epic weekend in PASR history began Thursday morning at 9AM when I hit the road enroute for Stowe VT. The drive on Route 22 East to 33 South to I-78 east to I-287 North to I-87 was smooth and I averaged almost 70mph....zoom. I smoke with Dime on the drive up he was left Stroudsburg around Noon. I also talked with A-Jeff who decided to stay home and rocked out to some Huey Lewis and the News..when Hip To Be Square comes on..I drive a little faster and do my 80s dance.. :lol:

I stopped for gas near Schroon Lake..88 miles north of Albany NY before heading eastward on 74 to Ticonderoga then over the Champlain Bridge into Vermont...the temperature was in the upper 50s..30 miles east on Route 17..the temperature was 20 degrees cooler and the trees frosted with snow as I climbed the Appalachian Gap and coasted into the Mad River Valley. I made it to the Town and Country resort in Stowe a few minutes after 4PM. I ended up taking a nap, drinking a bunch of beer and then getting pizza from Pie in the Sky..then Dime came over and chilled and I drank more beer and walked around by the recreation path.

on to the skiing:::::::::

I arrived at Stowe at 830AM on Friday April 10th. The temperature at the base was in the upper 30s under partly sunny skys. I purchased my 3 day lift ticket for $124 and proceeded up the steps to the quad..as I wasn't hardcore enough to go up the hill.. :lol: Up the quad and at the top it was around 30 degrees and everything was so white. I first skied a groomer warmup down Ridgeview to Sunrise to Standard..then Lord to North Slope to the base of the Quad..the groomers were nice and packed powder near the top, crispy mid mountain and sticky and soft lower mountain. Over at the Gondola base I ran into PASRs own Johnny Style..Johnny bought his ticket and then we went up the Gondola..I wanted to poach Chin-clip and Johnny wasn't down so i just poached the top part which had sweet corn bumps then I bailed onto Switchback and caught up to Johnny on Gondolier then we skied Lower Switchback which was pretty bare and mushy. Back up the Gondola and I got a text from Dime to meet at the top of the quad at 10AM. So we skied some woods off of Cliff Trail to Nosedive across midway and down to the base..the quad was stopped so we went up the triple and down a cruiser back to the quad and up the quad and we were a little late for our 10AM meeting.

We skied Nosedive to the Slalom Glades..The top of Nosedive was nice Chalky snow which turned to mank lower down in the glades..then we sniffed around in some of the Goatdive woods..Then back up and we hit Bypass which had great snow to the BBQ grill woods. Then down Midway to Liftline up the Quad. Then we skied Starr which was fantastic..even the icy areas were edgeable and it was skiable edge to edge. We skied all of Starr over the bare patched under the Lookout double and back down to the quad..then back up for some gnarly tight woods next to Hayride..then down Hayride which had some really nice corn. Then up the quad and by this point around 1PM, the rope was dropped on Upper Goat. Goat skied great..an unforgiving run was very forgiving and the few exposed rocks were easily avoidable with a little Pocono Shuffle/ Jump Turn combo. We skied Upper and middle goat..and lower Goat was closed so down National we went which had big soft bumps..5 hours after beginning and no lunch breaks, I was spent and called it a day..A really sweet first day of the ski trip..and by now it was almost 50 degrees at the base.

I drove back into town...had some beer, a sandwich, combos, fruit salad, nachos and anything else I could get my hands on..then fell asleep..Melissa and her friend Mike rolled into the Town and Country around 630PM and I went to the Shed with them for dinner. I had a bacon burger and Shed Ale..and Melissa and Mike had the beer samplers with 6 different kinds of beer on a ski..then they got another ski and I tried a smoky stout and something else. Then later Johnny, Dime, Melissa and Mike all chilled in the GSS party room until like 11PM..we party hard!!!

Saturday morning I woke up early and went to the Stowe Bagel and Melissa beat me there...I had an early riser which is bacon, cheddar, egg and tomato on a bagel and Red Bull..they didn't have any Sugar Free Red Bull..Then I drove up to the mountain with the warm sunshine and Walking On Sunshine blaring from my speakers...It was going to be a good day!!!!

Part 2..

I pulled into the Mount Mansfield lot at Stowe around 810AM on Saturday April 11th. The temperature was in the mid 30s under brilliant Blue skys with a few wispy cirrus clouds. I booted up and climbed the hill to the Forerunner quad. Clicked into my blowers for some J-Dipping..Just Another Day In Paradise. I began my day with two lightning fast warm-ups on Sunrise, Lord, Standard and Tyro..then to the top of the quad for the 9AM meeting with the PASRs. First Dime arrived, then Johnny Law but still no Melissa and Mike. They were at the top of the gondola so we met up with them later.

At this point in the day, the snow was still pretty solid off-piste so we skied a few fast cruisers..then we went to the Gondola and Switchback was mad crispy but Gondolier had some sa weet corn..and puddles by the bottom..then back up the Gondola and down Perry Merrill which was so nice and fast at the top and then sloppy and pretty bare on the final pitch..then back up the gondola and over to the quad side via Cliff Trail to Nosedive to Lower Liftline which had some nice some mini-bumps..perfect for goose-stomping.

Then back up the quad and me, Dime and Johnny Style hit up a fun woods stash by Toll Road..then another by Sunrise and then we met Melissa and Mike at the base of the quad. The liftline was long and the quad was stopped...so we skated to the triple. Then skied Sunrise to Lord..sloppy spring snow..Melissa was beat from her first day skiing and she took a break and Mike took a wrong turn to a different lift...then it was back to me, Johnny and Dime.

Next up was Starr..Starr skied just as nice as the day before..JEA!!!!..we cut through the woods back to Nosedive where the snowcover gets thin..then back to the quad..Up the quad and down Bypass to Bypass Woods to Slalom Glades and back onto Nosedive..and over to the Gondola. Up the Gondola and I showed Dime and Johnny Tomba which is a fun chute which I skied alot in college. Me and Dime took the easy way and Johnny hit the steepest bulge of ice next to a boulder and hit the compression back to the trail with steeze...nice stuff..and then we skied Perry Merrill..Johnny Style peaced out but me and Dime got a second wind..and I took Dime into the Kitchen Sink below the Kitchen Wall..he took some pictures that he'll likely post later.

We both scored a few fresh tracks in several days old powder but it skied nice since that area is pretty sheltered and the traverse seperates the men from the boys. Then we skied down through some woods back to the Cliff Trail then across Nosedive to more woods which had softened up nicely and were so nice even in the tighter/rockier lines..some hot boarder babes in the woods..Then down the mush bumps of lower liftline and back up the quad. By now it was about 3PM and I was spend so I took a long dilly dally last run making slow deliberate turns.

After skiing, I went to Pie-Casso and pounded two UFO Wheat beers..and I got some takeout food. Then I went back to my room..had a few more beers and ate..then passed out. Then later Melissa gave me a 12 pack that she and Mike picked up from the Magic Hat Brewary..a spring variety pack..nice. I had some ice cream, gatorade and cheeze-itz..then I passed back out..

Nice. How do you think she's going to hold up this week? Planning to head up Thu-Fri, but I have flexibility to get there earlier in the week if need be.

There's plenty of snow..it's all a matter of if the temperatures warm enough to soften the snow up..and the grooming is really shitty..usually you can count on good grooming at Stowe when the off-piste is barely skiable but they must have laid off alot of their staff...

Nice Pictures Dime!!!

Part 3:::::::

I packed all my stuff up and left the Town and Country resort around 750AM. I skipped breakfast and headed right for the hill. In the Mansfield lot, it was in the low 20s with strong winds and snow falling sideways. I put on an extra layer and walked up the 50 or so steps behind the lodge one last time, then skated over to the Forerunner quad. It was frigid at the top with 30-40mph winds and a temperature of 10 degrees. The hero snow of Friday and Saturday was transformed into a frozen moonscape. Several trails were groomed but the groomers did a lackluster job and there were ruts, divots and death cookies everywhere. It was OK because I'm used to skiing those sorts of conditions at Blue mountain. I did two warmups and then waited at the top for Melissa and Mike. We skied Sunrise to Toll Road to Tyro which still had some fresh frozen cord..then crossover to the Gondola. At the top of the gondola, we ran into PASRs own Johnny Style.

We skied down Perry Merrill and the top was pretty nice hardpack but then it transformed into a combination of scrapped off areas and death cookies..not very nice. Then back up the Gondola and this was Johnny Styles last run. We went down Cliff Trail and Melissa tried a little woods shot. The middle section of Nosedive was death cookie central..the Cookie monster would be nom nom nomming all the way down. Then up the Quad and we met up with Dime at the top. We skied Ridgeview to Lord to Tyro..then back up the quad. By this point my toes were pretty frozen and we stopped in the Octogon. There were free donuts..Thanks Jesus...and although I'm agnostic, spirit in the sky was playing on the radio for extra stoke!! I also had popcorn and diet stoke. Then me and Dime said goodbye to Melissa and Mike and made our way into the woods off Toll Road which were mad crispy and only good for a few turns. Then down to the Gondola...a final run down Cliff Trail to Nosedive..slow and deliberate turns..that's where the action shot of me is from.

I pulled out of the parking lot around 1240PM and made my way to the highway..Melissa and Mike hit the highway at the same time as me..I accidently got off I-89 an exit too early so I got back on the road and passed Melissa and Mike..then in Rutland I stopped at McDonalds and I passed them again at one of the traffic lights..the drive home was smooth and it took me 6 hours and 40 minutes from the Stowe exit on I-89 to the GrilledSteeze exit of Route 22.

What a fun ski trip..warm sunshine on Friday and Saturday and a last taste of winter yesterday. I'm glad Dime, Johnny, Melissa and Mike all made the journey to Stowe for an epic weekend. It's tough for people from Pennsyltucky to drive an extra hour and a half past Killington to ski Stowe but it's worth it. Hopefully next season we can have another PASR Get Together in Stowe with Atomic Jeff, Phillycore, Kragan and others in attendance.

Being back at work stinks but I need to make more $$$$$ for my next skiing adventure!!!!

There were lots of interesting charecters in and around Stowe this past weekend.

--The dude from Ohio on Snowblades bitching about the spring conditions..and was saying the National weather service forecast was BS He said he never heard of spring snow at 10AM..and I told him to get some real skis..then he bragged about places he had been that were better than Stowe on his 40mm Atomic mini-me Skeeze..and he had graphite poles that were a hell of alot nicer than my $25 powder poles..I guess I'm the gaper..sorry I'm a nice guy but this guy rubbed me the wrong way but he had a ton of Football knowledge.

--The UVM Sophomore who got an earfull when I talked about Bar-sexuals then talked about her friends and it turned out she was a tour guide which reminded me of the movie Road Trip..I told her to keep it real..

--Unfortunately no MILFs from Cherry Hill NJ...that's what the 6-pack at Blue is for..

--Learning about Smartstyle, Stowe's triple AAA's, The Skiers Responsibility Code and other safety precautions..you can never be too safe..and I only ducked one rope..but it was to prove a lesson..not to duck ropes..

--The random dude on the gondola eating trail-mix..I know it was you who farted. When gave you that evil stare, it wasn't because I was jeolous of you're granola-jellybean tapenade...it was because you expelled noxious gas in an enclosed area...Karma will treat you to the largest Dutch Oven this side of Rotterdam.

--The employees at the store next to the hotel...you guys must think I drink alot..

--British kids who took over the town of Stowe..I swear they were shooting a Pink Floyd movie...Teacher Leave Us Kids Alone...

--Woman dressed up as the Easter Bunny in the Octogon...nothing to really say..

--I didn't get whistled at by one ski patroller..

I was told today by a local at the loaf that the remaining open areas in New England market wicked heavy to the Brits. The alps have all melted, the flowers are blooming in liverpool and the rockies are too far.

Wow the marketing sure works. Now if only we can convince PA mountains to make a deeper base mid winter so they can market hardcore to the Brits to come to PA late season and stay open into late April.

frozencorn have fun skiing the corn at Stowe!!!! Ever since I was in college, Stowe has attracted alot of British tourists for spring skiing. Beginners don't need the Alps or Rockies and there's alot of elbow room this time of year except for skiers and riders at Stowe encountering 15 person long snakes, they pretty much blocked Cliff-trail side to side but it's all good..I was able to work on my slow and deliberate turns in case I'm ever in a ski-off
