In terms of terrain at Smuggs, they have some great stuff when the woods are good and double diamonds are open (very rare).

Is Smuggs western exposure this bad? Jay and Stowe typically have woods skiing from mid-december to mid-april. Everything I hear about Smuggs makes it sounds like mountain with far less snowfall, even though it isn't. Does the west wind really blow away that much snow?

I'm not saying that the woods aren't open much. I'm saying that the double diamonds aren't open much. They get very wind-blown - especially Lift Line. They could get 3 feet of snow and still not have it open top to bottom. I would say on a good year, Lift Line may be open 10 days top to bottom.

On the other hand, the woods are usually very good when other woods in New England are good. There are some sick lines and they are some of my favorite in New England. But, in a typical New England winter this is usually January-March. The rest of the season, Smuggs leaves much to be desired.
