Here it goes: Friend of mine works in a ski shop, was up at Stratton for next years demos (he's a Snowboarder) had a room at the Lift Line Lodge. Me and my brother crashed the room/shared a bed(its not gay he's my blood)(not that theres any thing wrong w/ that)

Drove up from the Island(of Long) Tues. after work:snow: Got to Stratton around 2am had some cell phone issues but were able to locate said friend. Had a Victory Killians & got some shut-eye. Wednesday morning Continental Breakfast was shared w/ another Dave x2 at that place they have the Breakfast at...(P.S. if your ever there early enuf stop in no one will mind):flag:

Ski Shop Dave had to test some boards, out but we were able to get a few runs in w/ him at the Sun Bowl before he had to head back to the base for some more products. The Bro. & I pretty much stuck to the Snow Bowl all day due to the Gondola(Fartbox) being down due to wind all day:-( The base area was pretty much a shit-show w/ all the vendors set-up and the Ganjala not running, so we stuck to our own semi-private area aka the Sun Bowl all day. Stratton gets a bad rep. for being a flat/boring mountain. While alot of the "trails" seem to ski the same(due to over grooming) we had a blast skiing the Glades. The reports of wet precip. over the weekend had led to poor expectations. For some reason the trails on the Sun Bowl seemed exempt to those crunchy conditions experienced elsewhere on the mtn. Our choice for run of the day has to go to Test Pilot. There were loads of untouched Powder Shots in there both days:snow: A close second goes to Beartrap? an ungroomed double black in the Sun Bowl(FWIW the names Sun/Snow Bowl are very confusing.) We closed out day 1 by taking Dave out to dinner at the Out Back(not to be confused w/ the Outback) figuring it was the least we could do for our Homeboy.

Day 2 Thursday?:dunce: This is where I will mention how great it is to be able to ski mid-week. We had all the trails we could want to our-selves, all the lifts(comfy six-packs) were ski-on, there is no hassle anywhere in VT mid-week. :flag: We did have to check-out of the room prior to skiing this day so that delayed our start-time to around 10ish As w/ the day before we took a few obligatorily runs w/ the guy who paid for the room in the AM, then it was game-on. Hit up Test Pilot and made our way over to some of the tree runs we had missed on day 1. The Gondola was back in action and the crowd seemed to have settled from the earlier shit-show. The Bro. and I killed it all day. There were some snow showers during the day that had us questioning our departure later in the same. Things were going great till we got off the last lift at 4:06pm. Then that last-run/invincible thing kicked in. In the days prior some of the lift-line ropes had been opened, allowing a door-way to some nice skiing. I'm not saying we ducked any ropes(well day1 we did ski through some woods to access an ungroomed "closed" trail) this time I actually skied over a buried rope(Bro following) into some lovely looking untracked powder shot to the top of one of the lifts that takes you half-way up the mtn... This ended very badly! It was late in the day and the light was flat... and so was the landing. ...Of what seemed to be a gentle roller that turned-out to be a 15' drop!!! Yeah, pretty much like jumping out of a second-story window:dunce: I just about black-out upon impact and before I'm able to gather my whits Broski is falling out the sky right behind me and goes ass-over-teakettle breaking his ankle about 5' from me. At this point the Liftee in the top shack is asking us if were OK. I told him this shoulda been marked and have to recollect w/ bro. to confirm in fact it was(rather poorly).

Long Story short we ski/ride away before any BS. At base I'm able to walk to car while Bro limps. While I was able to walk away I feel at least partially responsibly for my brothers injury. Not to many people will follow me where I decide to go. He is(or was) one of the few who will.:spread:

I know this report is unorthodox, but I've had a few  and felt this story needed to be told. So to all the Weekend(Midweek) Warriors be aware that dangers lurk inbounds as well as out. And never say "last run"!!!

Thanx Bill. As for my head, thankfully I was an early advocate for helmets and should be OK w/ a few aspirin. Bros foot will be in a cast for about a month(no surgery)... It was a stupid thing to do, and he got the worst of it. I just feel responsible being the older brother :dunce: he was following. Thank God it wasn't any worse :spread:
